What you'll do...
Role summary:
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software development lifecycle from coding to deployment and maintenance. You will apply cloud-native architecture principles to enhance system resilience and agility while integrating AI/ML solutions to advance intelligent automation. This role requires technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across teams to ensure high-quality, maintainable software aligned with business objectives. You will champion engineering excellence through data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, and effective communication with stakeholders to support Walmart's technology goals.

About the team:
The Atlas WMS team oversees the platform end-to-end, developing systems that direct inbound freight, optimize inventory slotting, and enhance picking and packing for millions of weekly orders. The team supports associate workflows and integrates advanced robotics and automation technologies. Operating at a large scale, Atlas processes vast daily transactions, supporting tens of thousands of associates and ensuring timely order fulfillment. This team tackles complex engineering challenges to build foundational technology that drives operations for a leading retailer, delivering significant impact on warehouse efficiency and customer satisfaction.

What you'll do:
  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and machine learning frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
  • Lead full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.
  • Integrate AI/ML components to develop intelligent automation features.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data-driven decision making and innovation.


What you'll bring:

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Java programming and software design patterns to develop secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
  • Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and system observability.
  • Ability to conduct thorough design reviews and apply data-driven decision making to optimize platform and product development.
  • Demonstrated skills in API design, software prototyping, and DevOps engineering to enhance developer productivity.
  • Aptitude for mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote engineering excellence and sustainability.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
