Role summary:

The Principal Software Engineer leads platform engineering initiatives, delivering scalable, cloud-native solutions and reusable tooling that support long-term platform evolution. This role drives the full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, integrating AI/ML capabilities and ensuring high availability and fault tolerance. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable solutions. The engineer champions innovation, continuous improvement, and architectural excellence while maintaining accountability for quality and alignment with business objectives in a dynamic environment.
About the team:

The Advertising Business Systems (ABS) team, part of the Advertising Technology group, develops scalable platforms supporting Advertisers, Agencies, Partners, and internal stakeholders. The team focuses on Lead Generation, CRM, Onboarding, Business Management, Media Planning, Order Management, Billing, Insights, Generative AI, and Third Party Tools. ABS delivers intelligent solutions that enhance advertiser engagement and operational efficiency. By aligning technology with business goals, the team drives advertising revenue growth and expands platform capabilities beyond Walmart Connect. The team fosters innovation and builds trusted partnerships across Walmart's advertising ecosystem to support continuous advancement.
What you'll do:
  • Lead platform engineering efforts by delivering scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and cloud-native architectures aligned with strategic roadmaps.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing capabilities.
  • Architect and implement AI-enhanced applications integrating multi-step reasoning agents and model-driven design principles.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, influencing architectural standards and promoting engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
  • Champion continuous improvement by adopting new technologies, optimizing processes, and fostering innovation.

What you'll bring:
  • Extensive experience leading platform engineering initiatives, delivering scalable cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
  • Proven expertise in software development lifecycle management, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Strong background in designing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Dart, Rust, and C++.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentorship, and influence architectural decisions across teams.
  • Skilled in applying model-driven design and leveraging AI agents to enhance development velocity and quality.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to engage cross-functional stakeholders and drive alignment.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
