Overview

A Microsoft US Central Subregional Construction Quality Leader is responsible for governing the quality management system, auditing contractor quality performance, managing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and quality metrics, identifying risks before they impact commissioning or operations, and ensuring data centers are delivered ready to perform-not just ready to complete.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the US Central Construction Quality Metro Team, ensuring quality targets are met on subregional and metro level.


  • Lead initiatives to improve our quality delivery of datacenter spaces to operational partners. Responsible for Quality performance of our builds in the US Central Subregion. Onboard, train and hire Metro Quality managers to support delivery of our datacenter builds, and report status of construction quality in the US Central Subregion. Manage, reward and retain top talent in the US Central Construction Quality organization.


Drive Construction Quality from Day One

  • Ensure facilities are built in accordance with design requirements, specifications, and Microsoft quality standards.


  • Promote a "Right First Time" culture to reduce rework, delays, and operational risks.


Audit Contractor Quality Programs

  • Verify General Contractors are executing their Quality Management System (QMS).


  • Conduct routine quality audits, inspections, and field observations.


  • Validate contractor compliance with Division 01 requirements, quality plans, inspection processes, and documentation requirements.


Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Quality Issues

  • Initiate and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).


  • Ensure corrective actions are developed, implemented, and verified.


  • Escalate unresolved quality issues to project leadership.


  • Trend recurring quality problems and drive systemic corrective actions.


Quality Management System Ownership

  • Establish and maintain project quality plans.


  • Review and align contractor quality plans before mobilization.


  • Standardize quality processes across projects and campuses.


Inspection & Test Planning Governance

  • Govern Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).


  • Define hold points, quality gates, and documentation requirements.


  • Ensure Installer Verification Checklists (IVCs) and readiness requirements are met before commissioning milestones.


Digital Quality Platform Management

  • Administer quality tracking systems (Nexus/ACMS).


  • Monitor issue closure timelines and SLA performance.


  • Produce dashboards and quality metrics for leadership visibility.


Field Quality Assurance

  • Perform field inspections and observations.


  • Monitor workmanship trends and installation quality.


  • Verify contractors are following approved procedures and specifications.


  • Provide early identification of risks that could impact commissioning, IST, or turnover.


Readiness and Turnover Support

  • Support energization and commissioning readiness reviews.


  • Ensure documentation, inspections, punch lists, and quality issues are appropriately closed prior to turnover.


  • Partner with Commissioning Managers and Operations to improve startup outcomes.


Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze trends across campuses and metros.


  • Capture lessons learned.


  • Recommend process improvements that improve quality performance and reduce recurrence of defects.


Contractor Accountability

  • Hold GCs accountable for their QA/QC responsibilities.


  • Monitor closure performance and response times.


  • Reinforce that workmanship quality remains the responsibility of the contractor. Microsoft Quality provides oversight and assurance.

Qualifications

Required/ Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years Construction Quality Management experience in data center/mission critical environments OR equivalent experience.


Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.


Additional or Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years Construction Quality Management experience in data center/mission critical environments OR equivalent experience.


  • 12+ years experience working on data center projects.


  • 10+ years project management experience.


  • 10+ years people management experience.


  • Proficient in in Microsoft 360 Suite, BIM (building information modeling), Bluebeam, and construction software tools. Proficient in using data analytics and internal reporting tools, such as PowerBI, Compass Cx and other statistical inference tools.


  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends.


  • Demonstrated experience with continuous/process improvement methodologies such as DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control), Lean, DFSS/process design, process management and change management.


  • Certifications in quality control and testing are preferred. CQM certificate from US (UNITED STATES) Army Corp of Engineers, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) 30.


  • Knowledge of the FMEA, MSA process, 8D or other structured problem-solving methodology


  • COPQ analysis and ISO 9000 experience. ASQ certification CQM, CQE or CQA


  • Experience managing a structured quality system.


  • Meticulous attention to specification and governing standards detail and installation compliance with a commitment to delivering high-quality results. This includes auditing contractor certifications.


  • Ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, promoting open and inclusive communication, providing clear direction to a diverse team, and quickly resolving issues gating project progression


  • Demonstrated ability and appreciation for working collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment to meet schedule.

Construction Project Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $116,900 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $148,400 - $222,600 per year.
