Responsibilities

  • Develop department manufacturing strategy in collaboration with site leadership
  • Lead all aspects of performance management and attendance for the Metals Unit
  • Support implementation of HR policies at the site
  • Lead troubleshooting of processes to resolve operational issues
  • Provide support for process optimization efforts
  • Drive commitment to quality and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Coordinate production planning in partnership with the Production Planner
  • Oversee month-end close processes and coordinate with Accounting
  • Implement operational reliability improvements and LEAN principles
  • Manage material movements and inventory control effectively
  • Execute health, safety, and environmental (HSE) improvements
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for the department
  • Encourage operational improvements through SOP updates and equipment modifications
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, HSE, HR, Quality, and Accounting teams
  • Provide coaching and development opportunities for department operators

Metals Unit Leader

The Metals Unit at the Kings Mountain facility includes two lithium metals processing departments. One unit is a metals casting facility which produces tech and battery grade ingots. The second unit produces a variety of products derived from battery grade lithium metal including foils, punched anodes, and alloy powders.

The Metals Unit Leader is responsible for maintaining safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the Primary and Secondary Metals facilities through leadership and coaching of the department staff. They have administrative responsibilities in support of the budget and department personnel matters.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In conjunction with site leadership, develops the department manufacturing strategy and supports its execution
  • Provides administrative leadership to the Metals Unit including all performance management and time/attendance issues
  • Supports and implements Site/Company HR policies
  • Leads process troubleshooting activities
  • Provides process optimization support
  • Drives unit quality commitment and improvement
  • Works in conjunction with the Production Planner to develop and execute the production plan
  • Responsible for the month-end close process and coordinates reconciliations with Accounting
  • Designs and implements operational reliability improvements
  • Leads and implements Six Sigma/LEAN initiatives
  • Responsible for all material movements and inventory management
  • Implements HSE improvements
  • Develops, Maintains and optimizes department-critical KPI's
  • Develop and implement plant operational improvements including, but not limited to, SOP updates, equipment modification, LEAN improvements, etc.
  • Work closely with various functions including Maintenance, HSE, HR, Quality, and Accounting
  • Provides coaching and development input to department Operators
  • Participate in lockouts tag outs of equipment and permitting including signing on and executing hazardous line breaks


POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum B.S. (Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering)
  • Minimum 5 years chemical industry experience (Operations preferred)
  • Previous chemical operation leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills
  • Possess an interest in people development
  • Knowledgeable in hazardous materials and general PSM
  • Ability to troubleshoot chemical process equipment and basic fluid flow
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Basic understanding of production cost accounting
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Ability to support a 24/7 operation as needed
  • Ability to read P&ID's and to locate equipment in the field based on them
