Full Job Description
The Underwriting Training Supervisor develops and delivers underwriting training programs that support employee development, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. This role oversees onboarding, ongoing training, quality assurance initiatives, and process improvements while serving as a technical underwriting resource for the organization. The Underwriting Training Supervisor partners with leadership and business stakeholders to identify training needs, improve underwriting quality, and support strategic business initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop team members by setting clear goals and expectations, providing regular performance feedback, coaching, training, and support for workload management, productivity, issue resolution, professional growth, and job performance.
  • Manage employee lifecycle activities, including onboarding, performance evaluations, personnel documentation, adherence to company policies and procedures, and providing recommendations regarding hiring, salary adjustments, and separation decisions to leadership.
  • Support strategic planning and resource management by evaluating team priorities, capacity, and organizational needs, while aligning team activities and project roadmaps with divisional and corporate objectives.
  • Coordinate the implementation of underwriting programs, procedural changes, and corporate initiatives while collaborating with business partners and other departments to support successful execution.
  • Develop, implement, and deliver underwriting training programs, including onboarding and ongoing training for underwriters, CSRs, and other departments, to support operational consistency and business objectives.
  • Develop and administer quality assurance programs, including scenario assessments, transaction audits, and performance reviews, to identify training needs, recommend workflow improvements, and support employee development.
  • Collaborate with leadership to evaluate quality assurance results, implement training and remediation plans, and recommend process improvements that enhance underwriting quality, consistency, and operational performance.
  • Serve as a technical underwriting resource by providing guidance on underwriting philosophy, procedures, regulatory requirements, and underwriting judgment to support business partners and operational decision-making.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain underwriting procedures, operational processes, and business plans while reviewing underwriting communications for regulatory compliance and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma, or equivalent, with related experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Supervisors and managers are required to have completed NYCM's internal leadership development programs, including Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ1) and Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ2). External hires must complete required leadership programs, Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ1) and Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ2).

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development experience with the ability to train others.
  • Thorough knowledge of personal lines underwriting, underwriting guidelines, departmental workflows, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to underwrite all personal lines of business in accordance with company underwriting and rating guidelines.
  • Strong business acumen, decision-making, analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and relationship management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across the organization.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and underwriting systems.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to build effective relationships and provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders.

Market Range: 10 / Exempt / 40 hours per week / Hybrid- 3 days per week

Salary: $63,313- $105,521
