We are looking for an Underwriting Specialist for our office in San Francisco or Los Angeles for our Financial Lines Public D&O line of business..

Your Team

As an Underwriting Specialist, you'll take ownership of a portfolio of large, complex accounts and play a key part in shaping our underwriting strategy. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor and develop fellow underwriters, making a real impact on the people around you, not just the bottom line.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to brokers, clients, and risk managers, building relationships that create long-term value for everyone involved.

  • Contribute to regional underwriting strategy, helping us stay ahead of market trends and deliver innovative solutions.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
  • Underwriting new and renewal accounts to meet both revenue and profitability targets, including negotiating pricing, terms, and conditions with producers.
  • Managing capacity proactively and ensuring alignment with our governance framework, including underwriting authorities and guidelines.
  • Evaluating and managing risk accumulation, including catastrophe modeling and scenario analysis where applicable.
  • Supporting international insurance programs and coordinating with global colleagues as needed.
  • Ensuring contract certainty at inception and accurate, timely policy documentation.
  • Collaborating across functions, including market management, claims, and operations, to deliver a seamless experience for clients and brokers.
  • Supporting new business acquisition and retention efforts through proactive market engagement.


What You'll Bring to the Role

Experience & Knowledge
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years of underwriting experience in Financial Lines or a related specialty, with a strong track record of managing a profitable book of business.
  • Solid understanding of your line of business products, the competitive landscape, and regional and local insurance markets, including global elements.
  • Familiarity with the legal and regulatory framework relevant to your area of expertise.
  • Experience working within a complex, global organization is a plus.


Skills & Strengths
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex information from multiple sources and make sound decisions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to tell a clear and persuasive story.
  • A natural relationship builder who can influence and motivate others without relying on formal authority.
  • Comfortable with standard office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and pricing/underwriting platforms.
  • Ability to utilize AI tools to support day-to-day tasks, improve efficiency and contribute to data-driven decision making.


Education & Credentials
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, or Business Administration.
  • Professional insurance qualification (e.g., CII or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Fluent in English (native level).


The annualized base pay range for this role is $148,103 - $223,724 for San Francisco or Los Angeles, CA . The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
