Great American’s Fidelity/ Crime Division is a market-leading specialty insurance business with deep expertise in protecting organizations against financial loss arising from employee dishonesty, forgery, and other crime-related exposures. With deep underwriting and claims expertise, the division delivers customized coverage solutions to a diverse portfolio of public and private companies, financial institutions, and government entities. In addition to Crime, the division specializes in Kidnap & Ransom (K&R) and Fine Art coverage.
We are currently searching for an Underwriter or Senior Underwriter for our New York City Region. This individual will work hybrid from the New York City office. The role of the underwriter is tomarket, underwrite, and produce profitable Fidelity/Crime business in accordance with Company objectives and policies. This is a salaried position and not commissioned sales. Underwriting territories include the NYC boroughs, Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, and Northern New Jersey.
Responsibilities:
Has accountability for risk selection / rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability (within scope of authority and per divisional objectives).
Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers to attract and retain profitable business.
Interacts with the producers/insureds, assists in marketing calls, and participates in underwriting/production calls.
Interprets, explains, and markets products and services.
Visits producers and insureds to build and maintain business relationships, retain existing accounts, and develop new opportunities.
Uses independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
Maintains a high level of customer service.
Receives and analyzes submissions and determines terms to offer (policy limits, deductibles, coverage options and conditions, etc.).
Prices business in accordance with company guidelines.
Assesses risk quality and compliance within company guidelines.
Makes recommendations on risks.
Enters, maintains, and monitors accounts using underwriting, analysis, and desktop systems.
Prepares effective internal and external communications on underwriting issues.
Applies underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Generally, 3-10+ years insurance underwriting and/or business development experience.
Financial institutions (FI) experience is a plus.
Insurance carrier or broker experience in professional lines/crime is preferred but not required.
High level of organizational skills, ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in PC based programs and Microsoft Office
Strong negotiation skills, verbal and written communication skills in order to leverage excellent customer relationships, and to drive opportunities for marketing products and services.
Must be open to day travel to visit producers and insureds, and, and limited overnight travel for industry conferences, events, and internal meetings.
