Full Job Description
AXA XL's Excess and Surplus business unit offers Property coverage to North American based Insureds. Underwriting teams are based in the United States. Coverage is written on an occurrence, claims-made or occurrence reported basis. Our broad range of appetite includes clients in manufacturing, retail, habitational, real estate, CAT risk and many more.

As an Underwriting II, you will be responsible for delivering a profitable 'Underwriting' service to your clients and act as the owner and principal facilitator of assigned accounts. The Underwriter will perform front-to-end activities throughout the life cycle of renewal and prospect accounts from submission to expiration. You will build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients. You will underwrite business within the agreed business plan and individual authority.

You will report to the Underwriting Manager, E&S Property.

What you'll be DOING

What will your essential responsibilities include?
  • Manage and underwrite a profitable book of new and renewal business per AXA XL guidelines, appetite and philosophy.
  • Develop and structure tailor-made risk solutions to win new business and retain existing customers.
  • Analyze risk and determine terms and conditions as well as appropriate pricing in accordance with granted authority and AXA XL guidelines.
  • Underwrite, evaluate risk, and assess completeness of the underwriting package. before underwriter is required to review. Communicate directly with Brokers to collect account and insured information necessary for risk analysis.
  • Communicate account status to ensure completion of outstanding subjectivities needed to execute policy issuance and premium collection as part of bound accounts.
  • Manage the workflow of multiple tasks and maintain a detailed understanding of the status of various tasks owned by Underwriter Assistants, Brokers, Reinsurers, and AXA XL internal network.
  • Collaborate and correspond verbally and in written format with internal and external contacts across the world, keeping in mind differences in local language, time zones, and good local standard, to achieve a high level of service and meet client expectations.

What you will BRING

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
  • Bachelor's degree or related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Underwriting and / or equivalent Broker experience with strong knowledge of underwriting, rating methodologies, forms and business processes.
  • Adept interpersonal skills in order to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups.
  • Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results.
  • Organizational, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers, producers and trading partners.

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $87,400- $170,000 USD.

Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues' pay.
