Full Job Description
Position: Underground Operations Superintendent (Ruby Hill)

i-80 Gold Corp is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Underground Operations Superintendent. The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the mining contractor in day-to-day execution of the mine plan. This involves regular interactions with i80 technical services staff, i80 surface operations and contractors to ensure the mine plan targets are achieved in a safe and efficient manner.

Location: Ruby Hill / Archimedes Underground, Eureka, NV

Ruby Hill is part of the historic Eureka district with gold discoveries dating back to 1864. The Archimedes pit was from 1997 to 2021, primarily as an oxide heap-leach operation. Residual leaching of the pad is ongoing. The property is host to multiple high-grade deposits of both precious and base metals. The company is currently developing the Archimedes underground mine to access the "426" and "Blackjack" zones. The mine currently consists of two portals, underground ramp development, exploration drifts and support facilities inside of the Archimedes pit. The 426 zone will commence production in 2026, while further delineating the Blackjack deposit. The Underground Operations Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing the mining contractor in development of the underground mine.

Responsibilities

  • Champion safety and environmental performance for underground development and production
  • Direct the underground mining contractor in the execution of development and production activities
  • Ensure contractor compliance to engineering designs, specifications and quality standards
  • Liaise between the mining contractor, i80 technical services and i80 surface operations to ensure underground operations receive necessary support for successful execution of the mine plan
  • Work with maintenance, geology, and engineering to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly plans are aligned
  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures, and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in a healthy, safe, and environmentally sustainable manner
  • Conduct frequent planned and unplanned workplace inspections
  • Take ownership of underground mining and construction contracts, ensuring contract, schedule and budget compliance
  • Review and approve contractor invoices
  • Oversee third-party underground contractors completing construction and vertical development
  • Assist the i80 geology team in the supervision of third-party exploration drilling contractors
  • Partner with the i80 procurement team to maintain adequate inventory levels for i80-supplied materials
  • Lead underground continuous improvement initiatives in coordination with the mining contractor
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports summarizing underground mining performance
  • Formulate, monitor, and ensure contractor compliance with mining regulations and i-80 policies and procedures
  • Organize people, materials, and equipment, and assist in developing and monitoring work schedules to achieve mine plans
  • Support the site safety culture through leadership and regularly engaging with and holding the workforce accountable for safe work practices
  • Partner with the Health and Safety department in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Participate in health and safety meetings and risk reviews as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications
  • Minimum of ten (10) years or underground operations experience with five (5) years of direct supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience in managing mining contracts
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering mine designs
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of hourly and salaried employees and contractor employees
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Adaptability to work effectively in a context of change, manage conflicting demands, and adapt to a variety of situations and individuals
  • Effective conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills (i.e. MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint) preferred
  • Formal continuous improvement experience in an underground mining environment is considered
