About the Role

Location: Interior British Columbia (Fly-in/Fly-out)
Job Type: Full-time, Project-Based (3-Year Secondment)

JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced Underground Mine Geotechnical Engineer to support the development and operation of an underground mining project located in the interior of British Columbia.

This is a project-based position operating on a fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) rotational schedule, with full camp accommodations provided while on site.

The successful candidate will provide technical support to underground operations, including ground control management, geotechnical monitoring, excavation stability assessments, and underground risk management. Working closely with mine engineers, geologists, surveyors, and operations personnel, this role is critical to ensuring safe underground development and production while maintaining compliance with operational and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine underground geotechnical inspections of development headings, stopes, ramps, raises, and underground infrastructure
  • Monitor underground ground conditions and identify geotechnical hazards affecting safety and production
  • Perform rock mass characterization, structural mapping, and geotechnical logging
  • Evaluate excavation, stope stability, and provide ground support recommendations (bolts, mesh, shotcrete, cable bolts, and reinforcement systems)
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Ground Control Management Plans (GCMP)
  • Acquire and interpret underground monitoring instrumentation data (extensometers, MPBX systems, convergence monitoring, and seismic systems)
  • Provide geotechnical input into mine planning, sequencing, ventilation raises, and infrastructure development
  • Support drill and blast reviews related to overbreak, dilution, and wall stability
  • Participate in geotechnical risk assessments and incident investigations related to ground instability or falls of ground
  • Maintain accurate geotechnical records, mapping, inspection reports, and monitoring databases
  • Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly technical reports
  • Collaborate with engineers, geologists, surveyors, and operations teams to improve performance and safety
  • Ensure compliance with site safety standards, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements

    • Rocscience Suite
    • Numerical modeling such as RS2 or FLAC3D
    • Mine planning such as Deswik and/or Vulcan
    • Leapfrog
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced underground environment
