Position Description:

Are you a Safety and Health (S&H) professional looking to have a career with a collaborative, diverse, and dynamic mining company? We have an opportunity for you!

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a S&H Specialist at our Turquoise Ridge Operations. The successful candidate will acclimate themselves to the work environment and perform duties related to the Safety and Health Profession.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as a technical advisor and mentor to the site management team while working with Senior S&H professionals to develop and implement strategies to control immediate risks in the workplace and find solutions to complex S&H problems.
  • Participate in internal S&H inspections and audits to identify conditions, behaviors, corrective action implementation/compliance, and/or training related corrective actions and needs.
  • Maintain a weekly to monthly overview plan for S&H functions related to their assigned area or division.
  • Work with all employees and staff to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company S&H standards and systems.
  • Accompany division management along with MSHA and State inspectors during inspections.
  • Assist with health testing and industrial hygiene activities as needed.
  • Serve as a resource or facilitator for incident investigations; ICAM or 5 Why analysis to ensure that all incidents are accurately investigated to determine root cause. Assist with development of meaningful and effective correction actions to prevent recurrence of safety incidents or industrial hygiene exposures. Ensure effectiveness reviews are conducted on corrective actions with participation of management and hourly personnel in the area or division.
  • Assist with accurate reporting of all incidents into approved system and development of flash, summary, senior leadership review reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data entry in databases.
  • Support and/or facilitate Formal Risk Assessments by developing and monitoring action plans.
  • Maintain and sustain active involvement with division safety team, committees.
  • Provide mentorship and support to all employees.
  • Actively participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and other training sessions.
  • Develop and instruct MSHA topics during New Hire Orientation, Annual Refresher Training, and Business Partner Hazard Training and Introduction to Work Environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree and six (6) years' of experience in industry preferred
  • Bachelors Safety Degree and three (3) years' of experience preferred
  • Experience in at least 2 divisions within mining (a year per division) preferred
  • 5 - 10 years' of experience in industry with proven/demonstrated Leadership in Safety preferred
  • Proven experience in working with peer groups and focus teams required
  • Proven communication skills with all levels of organization required
  • Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time sensitive deadlines required
  • Ability to work with confidential information required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent leadership skills and knowledge of influencing others required
  • Ability to promote safety in training and lead by example required
  • Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook preferred
  • Proven safe work record required
