The Opportunity

We are seeking a Transportation Planning Engineer to join our team in Kamloops. This role is designed for professionals with 5+ years of direct experience in transportation planning and modelling, particularly working with local municipal clients and applying advanced transportation analysis techniques.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering transportation planning projects, developing strong client relationships, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to innovative, sustainable, and efficient transportation solutions that support community growth and mobility needs.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead and support transportation planning projects for clients, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Perform advanced traffic modelling and simulation using industry-standard software such as Synchro, VISSIM, EMME, or similar.
  • Develop and review transportation impact studies, corridor analyses, and multimodal planning reports.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret traffic and travel demand data to inform project recommendations.
  • Coordinate directly with clients, presenting findings and guiding decision-making processes.
  • Prepare and deliver technical documentation, presentations, and visualizations for client meetings and public consultations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, planners, and technical staff.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives such as congestion management, safety improvements, and sustainable mobility planning.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff is considered an asset.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $120,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
