Job Responsibilities

Manages complex, intermediate, and small road and bridge construction projects on primary and secondary routes. Coordinates work with interdepartmental and outside entities, trains and evaluates subordinate personnel performance, and meets and discusses issues and resolves complaints from the general public. Ensures that all assigned work is performed in accordance with all South Carolina Department of Transportation rules, regulations, and policies. Performs inspection duties in all fields of inspection and produces the required reports relating to those inspections in a timely manner. Obtains construction certification in all specialized fields. Schedules and collects material samples and certifications relating to construction inspection activities. Maintains inspection and testing equipment, as well as completes daily time sheets and monthly mileage reports. Schedules and performs construction verification surveys and preconstruction layout activities. Collects data, produces accurate reports, and performs time-sensitive duties on all assigned projects. Performs project closeout duties on all assigned projects. These duties include, but are not limited to, the submittal of the Material Certification Form, the Final Inspection Punchlist Letter, and producing the required number of accurate As-Built Construction Plans on all assigned projects within the required timeframe. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
