This position will serve as the District Maintenance Engineer and works with Maintenance Sections, Area Offices, District groups, Division groups, and external stakeholders. Position DescriptionThis position supervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and bridge inspection. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials, private entities and contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:- Acts as consultant to staff engineers regarding plan operations as they relate to administration, programming, design, construction, right-of-way and maintenance.
- Acts as consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations.
- Analyzes, develops, recommends and implements facilities management policies and procedures.
- Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
- Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.
- Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.
- Coordinates with area engineers on design and plan preparation.
- Coordinates with other engineers in the district and with the Materials and Pavements Section of the Construction Division concerning material testing, specifications and material failures.
- Coordinates with other Divisions and Districts on contracting issues and serves as the point of contact for their professional services contracting program.
- Develops and monitors budget.
- Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's
- Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
- Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.
- Oversees data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.
- Participates in district plan review activities.
- Prepares and submits Plans, Specifications and Estimates (P. S. & E.) on projects.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires you to drive for TxDOT.
Minimum Qualifications:Education:Mandatory: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience:- 4 years experience in transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Must have one (1) year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
Licenses and Certifications:- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*
- Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools

- Talking- expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
