Develop and execute custom logistics strategies, taking into account geographical and winter challenges, as well as key economic corridors. Maximize national network coverage by ensuring seamless connections between distribution centers and the Canadian market. Ensure full compliance of the private fleet with provincial and federal regulatory requirements (Departments of Transport, hours-of-service rules, heavy vehicle safety standards). Design, implement, and oversee occupational health and safety (OHS) prevention programs and preventive fleet maintenance. Oversee safety audits, risk management, and the resolution of transport disputes or infractions. Continuously design, analyze, and optimize delivery routes and circuits for our truck fleet to maximize fill rates, reduce empty miles, and meet customer delivery windows. Implement and leverage advanced route planning technologies (TMS, telematics, GPS tracking) to dynamically adjust routes based on traffic, weather conditions, and other regional constraints. Analyze all daily routes to reduce operational costs and support the companys sustainability goals. Lead and coordinate multimodal transport flows, including ocean freight (import/export and coastal shipping) and air freight for urgent or strategic deliveries. Negotiate rates, contracts, and capacity allocations with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and airlines. Oversee customs operations and regulatory documentation related to international transport. Establish and track rigorous key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the efficiency and profitability of internal fleets and third-party carriers. Conduct periodic performance reviews with external transport partners and implement corrective action plans in the event of non-compliance with service level agreements (SLAs). Negotiate contractual agreements, rate cards, and master service agreements with third-party carriers to optimize operational costs. Optimize the productivity of the internal fleet (drivers and equipment). Qualifications - 5+ years of experience in freight management, transport coordination, or logistics within a distribution or manufacturing environment in Canada. - In-depth knowledge of Canadian transportation routes, freight corridors, winter logistics, and regional carrier capabilities (Ontario/Quebec hubs, Western corridors, Maritimes). - Deep expertise in FTL, LTL, intermodal rail, and basic container drayage workflows. - Proven track record of negotiating freight rates and managing carrier contracts.
