Full Job Description
Transplant Anesthesiologist to join our growing team at Methodist University Hospital, part of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee.

This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide anesthesia for liver transplantation and complex hepatobiliary procedures, as well as a diverse mix of advanced general surgical cases, within a collaborative, physician-led practice. The ideal candidate has experience managing high-acuity transplant patients and enjoys practicing in a busy academic environment alongside multidisciplinary surgical and critical care teams.

Compensation & Benefits
  • 1099: $15,697.65 per week + $50,000 Annual Transplant Stipend + $25,000 Annual Subspecialty Stipend
  • $25,000 Commencement Bonus in year one and annual Retention Bonus starting in year two.

Practice Environment:

Join a high-acuity transplant anesthesia program supporting one of the Mid-South's premier tertiary referral centers for abdominal organ transplantation.

This position provides the opportunity to care for patients undergoing liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, as well as complex hepatobiliary and abdominal surgical procedures. Physicians maintain a diverse practice within a collaborative, physician-led ACT model while working alongside transplant surgeons, hepatologists, nephrologists, intensivists, and multidisciplinary care teams.

Transplant Practice Includes:
  • Adult Orthotopic Liver Transplantation (deceased and living donor)
  • Kidney Transplantation, including recipients requiring native nephrectomy
  • Pancreas Transplantation
  • Combined abdominal transplant procedures
  • Complex Hepatobiliary (HPB) Surgery
  • Major hepatic resections
  • Management of complex hepatic hemorrhage and re-exploration procedures
  • Transplant revision and graft-related procedures
  • Major abdominal vascular procedures associated with transplantation


General Practice Includes

In addition to transplant anesthesia, physicians participate in a broad range of complex adult surgical cases, allowing for well-rounded clinical practice within a busy academic tertiary care medical center.

Responsibilities

Provide anesthesia for liver, kidney, pancreas, and other abdominal transplant procedures.

Manage patients with end-stage liver disease, end-stage renal disease, portal hypertension, and complex multisystem disease.

Direct advanced intraoperative hemodynamic management utilizing invasive monitoring, vasoactive infusions, rapid transfusion technologies, and evidence-based blood management strategies.

Lead perioperative management of massive transfusion and complex coagulopathy during transplant procedures.

Collaborate closely with transplant surgeons, hepatologists, nephrologists, intensivists, CRNAs, and multidisciplinary care teams throughout the perioperative continuum.

Participate in perioperative planning for transplant recipients and complex surgical patients.

Deliver exceptional patient care within a high-acuity academic transplant environment.

Document anesthesia care in accordance with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and Somnia standards.

Schedule
  • Full-time position
  • Shared transplant/general call rotation
    • Q3 call from home
    • 3 weeks on, 1 week off

  • Demonstrated experience providing anesthesia for liver, kidney, and/or pancreas transplantation or other complex hepatobiliary procedures
  • Experience managing advanced liver disease, renal failure, major hemorrhage, massive transfusion, and complex perioperative resuscitation
  • Fellowship training in Transplant Anesthesiology, Critical Care, Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, or equivalent advanced experience preferred but not required
  • No visa sponsorship available
