Summary
King County Metro Transit is seeking a dynamic and leadership-oriented candidate to serve in a Special Duty Assignment (SDA) as a Transit Capital Project Manager III (TCPM-III). In this role, you will lead a high performing team to deliver transit bus rapid transit infrastructure projects, with emphasis on Metro's RapidRide I Line. This role involves close collaboration with Metro's Engineering, Construction Management, Permitting, and other Metro Units and Sections.

This recruitment will be used to fill 1 SDA position anticipated to last approximately 6 months with the possibility for extension. In addition, this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility pool for future Special Duty Assignment vacancies that may occur in this classification within this workgroup. The eligibility pool will be retained for 12 months from the date of posting and may be used at the discretion of the hiring authority.
Job Duties

Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In this role you will apply equity and social justice principles to all aspects of the work. You will:

  • Independently manage the design, implementation and post-construction/ closeout phase of high-risk transit project(s), ensuring successful delivery within scope, schedule and budget.
  • Manage and lead a large team of consultants and internal team members.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address technical challenges and manage risks, escalating critical matters to leadership as needed.
  • Coordinate with internal, public, and jurisdictional stakeholders to align project goals and address concerns.
  • Manage the Comprehensive Project Management Tool (CPMT).
  • Prepare memos, reports, studies, correspondence, presentations, and Get Things Built Milestones, as applicable.
  • Manage consultant contracts.
  • Manage project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Complete reporting: Monthly Project Review, grant source, internal reporting.
  • Facilitate applicable project meetings, including core team, stakeholder engagement, utility coordination, partnership, jurisdictional coordination, and other meetings as applicable.
  • Cultivate a collaborative work environment that actively includes diverse viewpoints, embraces and appreciates diversity, expects and ensures mutual respect, and promotes cooperation for both internal and external project team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated work experience and deep understanding of bus rapid transit projects with emphasis on Metro RapidRide projects.
  • Outstanding collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience with Metro Get Things Built requirements (Milestones, Gates, other reporting).
  • Familiarity with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) processes, including reporting.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques.

Work LocationThis position follows a hybrid work schedule requiring a minimum of 2 days per week onsite at King Street Center, 201 S Jackson St., Seattle, WA 98104, consistent with King County Metro's hybrid work policy. Remote workdays may be adjusted based on operational or business needs.

Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Work Schedule
The work week is normally 40 hours, Monday through Friday. Alternative work schedules may be possible. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and therefore is not eligible for overtime pay.
