Position Overview: The Training Specialist Lead reports both operationally and functionally to the Satellite Operations, Maintenance, and Support Services (SOMSS) Program Manager (PM). The Training Specialist Lead provides Satellite Systems Operator (SSO) training to designated contractors and Government personnel on the following SATCOM systems: Narrowband Legacy (FLTSAT, UFO, FISCS, AFSCN, NSCN, Mission Planning, etc.) and MUOS (MUOS, ISCS, NMF, RAF Sites, AFSCN, Mission Planning, etc.).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the management of the SOMSS Training Program to include certifying and de-certifying SOMSS Satellite Systems Operators (SSOs). This position has oversight of the entire training program as well as decision making authority for certifications across the Satellite Operator staff.
- Completes SSO qualification prior to supporting duties as a trainer.
- Maintains proficiency by supporting shifts on the watch floor.
- While on shift, assesses current SSO practices and task execution. Provides feedback and recommendations to the Government regarding changes to training requirements.
- Provides On-the-Job Training (OJT) to new hires prior to the SSO training session to establish familiarization of the system as well as verify accounts and permissions.
- Reviews and refines existing curriculum and develops new training materials, as needed, to support the initial and recurring training of SSOs, per United States Space Force (USSF) Training Standards.
- Updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and checklists, and creates new documents as needed, to address operational requirements.
- Following the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model provided to qualified instructors by the USSF, the Training Specialist develops task lists that drive training objectives and evaluation criteria for SSO certification, such as Master Task Lists (MTLs), Period of Instructions (POIs), Syllabus, and Training Schedules.
- Develops focused training material to support Monthly Recurring Training (MRT) related to SOC duties. MRT provides a quick refresher to SOC personnel on seasonal satellite design characteristics, operations, anomaly resolution procedures and other topics related to satellite operations.
- Supports Training Review Boards and provides assessments of need to certify SSOs. Provides remedial training as needed and supports recertification activities.

- Personnel Qualifications Standards (PQS) or MTL certified in Satellite Operations
- Satellite Systems Operator (SSO) qualified
- Instructor and curriculum development experience
- Technical and engineering knowledge with the ability to convey complex concepts in an easy-to-understand format
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:- Instructor Qualification Course (IQC) certified
- Experience using the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model provided to qualified instructors by the USSF
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in related field or in lieu of degree; experience performing instruction in military satellite system operations.
Five (5) years' experience in technical training in satellite operations at a comparable level of responsibility in projects of similar size, scope, and complexity.
Travel: Occasional travel to support 10 SOPS' mission requirements
