Manufacturing Engineer - Tooling Engineer

Primary Function:

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for leading tooling-related manufacturing support, including supervising the internal tool and die department, coordinating maintenance and repair of dies, molds, fixtures, and tooling, and resolving tooling and production issues with internal teams and external suppliers. This role supports new tooling and equipment builds, evaluates manufacturability, develops cost comparisons and ROI analysis, and helps ensure tooling processes are efficient, reliable, and aligned with production needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of all internal and external stamping dies, mold tools, fixtures, and various other pieces of tooling.
  • Work with tool makers and suppliers, maintenance workers, production workers, and supervisors to troubleshoot and resolve various tooling and manufacturing issues.
  • Train new die setters and tool makers on Bradford White Corporation die setting practices and procedures.
  • Review new part prints and advise product engineering on design for manufacturability.
  • Obtain quotes for new stamping dies, mold tools, and various other pieces of tooling.
  • Create cost comparisons and return on investment calculations to assist in supplier selection.
  • Work with external tool shops and equipment suppliers to coordinate/manage new tooling and equipment builds.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related, or equivalent training and experience.
  • 5+ years' experience trouble shooting and resolving issues related to stamping dies, fixtures, and various other manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read prints and understand geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Adept in guiding and motivating teams of skilled works and non-skilled workers to accomplish difficult objectives.
  • Working knowledge of metal forming, machining and welding.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints to facilitate the supervision of fabrication and/or installation of equipment.
  • Sound understanding of mechanical and hydraulic operating systems.
  • Experience working with suppliers to quote new tooling, repair & maintain tooling or equipment.
  • Proficient in standard business-related computer software such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and 3D CAD/CAM applications such as SolidWorks, Catia, UGNX, Audocad3D, etc.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and implement new ideas, concepts and programs to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tools/program initiatives simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving skills and drive for results.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel locally to meet with tooling shops and suppliers on location
