Job Summary

Team Lead Utility Construction Contracts leads the administration and oversight of utility construction contracts while providing direct guidance to a team of contract specialists. This role serves as a strategic liaison between contractors, operations leadership, and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent contract execution, regulatory compliance, and contractor performance.

Team Lead is responsible for driving standardization, resolving complex contract issues, improving processes, and developing team capability to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective utility construction operations.

  • Performs all leadership duties including, but not limited to, hiring and rewarding talent, fostering an inclusive and safe workplace, partnering with employees to set clear goals and expectations, providing timely and specific feedback on performance, developing improvement plans to address performance gaps, addressing conflict with care and respect, identifying opportunities for growth and development, embracing and modeling a mindset of lifelong learning, ensuring employees report to work fit for duty, adhering to our Code of Conduct and modeling Alliant Energy’s Core Values at all times.

  • Lead and oversee utility construction contract activities, ensuring alignment with company standards, regulatory requirements, and project objectives while holding the team accountable for consistent execution.

  • Supervise and develop a team of contract specialists, including setting expectations, managing workload, coaching performance, and serving as the escalation point for complex contract and contractor issues.

  • Oversee contractor performance and compliance, directing field audits and reviews to ensure safety, quality, and billing accuracy, and driving corrective actions where needed.

  • Coordinate with operations and internal stakeholders to support project planning, execution, and compliance tracking, ensuring alignment across teams and priorities.

  • Manage contract risk and issue resolution, ensuring timely identification, escalation, and mitigation of risks, discrepancies, and performance concerns.

  • Drive process improvement and standardization in contract management practices to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve contractor outcomes.

  • Lead communication, implementation, and training for contracts, ensuring team members and stakeholders understand standards, policies, and expectations, while supporting effective contractor and customer interactions.

  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Business Administration, Engineering, or related field. Preferred

Required Experience

  • 5 years experience in utility construction industry or related experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Supervisory experience or equivalent preferred. (Equivalent supervisory experiences may include project management, providing work direction, leadership experience through temporary assignments, roles in the community or external organizations, or other demonstrated leadership experience).

  • Experience in contract management.

Other Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of utility construction practices, work methods, and standards.  

  • Knowledge of safety regulations, codes, and compliance requirements.  

  • Ability to interpret utility maps, construction drawings, and specifications.  

  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.  

  • Proficiency in business systems and project management tools.  

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

Pay Range:

$93,500-$128,500

This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
