Job Description

The Third-Party Management ("3PM") Senior Accountant will support accounting, cash management, and financial-control activities for Public Storage's growing 3PM program. This position will lead and support a team responsible for maintaining the general ledger and banking activity for a portfolio of more than 400 properties. Key responsibilities include bank reconciliations, wire and ACH transfers, credit card and customer ACH payment processing, chargeback activity, monthly reimbursement and distribution calculations, month-end close support, and SOX compliance. The Senior Accountant will also partner with 3PM Client Services to research and resolve customer inquiries.

The Role

This position will report to the Third-Party Management Accounting Manager and will collaborate with colleagues across the Third-Party Management organization and broader company. Responsibilities include:
  • Manage the monthly bank reconciliation process for a portfolio of 400+ properties, supporting accurate financial reporting and strong account controls
  • Manage weekly customer credit card settlements and the transfer to the respective properties
  • Record a variety of cash related transactions to the ledger, including chargebacks, bank fees, payment processing fees, NSF checks, cash/check/credit card/ACH variances, and more.
  • Help manage the daily and monthly bank reconciliation process, which is performed entirely by the Cash accountants and serves as a key financial and account control. Bank accounts reconciled are used by more than 400 stores and owner entities and are highly complex in nature.
    • Be the "go to" person to address and resolve reconciliation-related questions and issues raised by staff, store personnel, and other corporate accountants
    • Administer the ReconNET / Blackline reconciliation software system, which are central to the bank reconciliation process.
  • Research and resolve questions and issues raised by Third Party Management team and customers.
  • Record monthly accounting entries, adjustments, and accruals related to 3PM properties.
  • Prepare the final distribution process for terminated properties
  • Calculate monthly reimbursements to PS and revenue distributions to owners.
  • Assist the broader accounting team with banking issues, payment systems, cash control, and treasury-related matters when needed.
  • Train and review work completed by Global Cash GL staff accountants.
  • Ensure financial activities and records comply with GAAP and internal controls.
  • Contribute to SOX monitoring and compliance while working closely with both internal and external auditors.
  • Support the timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Collaborate with other Finance, Accounting, Analytics, and IT teams across the organization to continually streamline, automate, and improve existing processes.

Qualifications

Candidate must not only demonstrate a basic aptitude and understanding of accounting and controls but also demonstrate the ability and desire to add value to the company from an operational standpoint
  • Four-year college degree in accounting, finance, or other applicable major required.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience is required
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and master multiple, complex accounting, treasury, and payment systems and software and make proficient use of such knowledge to solve issues, answer questions, and complete projects.
  • Advanced computer skills, especially in MS Excel, knowledge of SAP, ReconNET, and Blackline is a plus
  • CPA license is a plus
  • Ability to develop cooperative relationships within all levels of the organization
