Job Overview & ResponsibilitiesAs a Thermodynamics Engineer on the Vulcan Development Flight Sciences team, you will be responsible for performing thermal analyses for upgrades and new developments to the Vulcan Centaur V flight system. This includes performance upgrades to Centaur V, reusability of the BE-4 engines, long duration upper stage operations, Centaur V on SLS, and more. Responsibilities include:
- Performs conceptual and detailed thermal analysis and design for the launch vehicle booster, upper stage and launch facility at both the detailed component level and at the systems level. Analyses include pre-launch, ascent, on-orbit and re-entry phases of flight to verify rocket designs will operate within temperature limitations and to define thermal protection systems were needed.
- Develop approaches, methodologies, and tools to solve complex engineering problems using analytical modeling, empirical, and semi-empirical approaches.
- Defines, monitors, and controls requirements as they relate to the design, development, and operation of complex launch systems.
- Develops procedures and plans for thermal test programs when existing analytical capabilities are insufficient.
- Resolves thermal issues arising from operational use in the field during production and launch operations.
- Develops analysis process improvements that reduce cost and risk and/or improve vehicle performance.

Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
- Relevant coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and or fluids.
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
- Experience with launch vehicle and/or spacecraft pre-launch, ascent, on-orbit and re-entry thermal design and analysis.
- Strong first principles knowledge and critical thinking ability.
- Experience with Thermal Desktop and Spaceclaim.
- Experience with Sinda/Fluint.
- Experience with Agile development and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Denveronly): $70,952.00 - $118,253.00
