We are actively seeking a
Thermal Production Engineer to join our team in Calgary and to support our Lindbergh SAGD asset. Reporting to the Production Engineering Lead, the Production Engineer will work closely with field operations staff and the asset team to optimize the production volumes, surface pad operation, reservoir efficiency, equipment reliability, and operating costs. The successful candidate will also be involved in planning and executing base and development capital projects.
Responsibilities:- Optimize SAGD production and injection through well surveillance and target setting
- Work closely with field operations staff to trouble shoot well performance issues
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to make effective production optimization decisions
- Develop well workover programs and ESP designs for pump replacements or upgrades
- Manage downhole pump performance tracking and reliability
- Support development execution and well pair start ups
- Identify, design, and execute value adding workovers
- Monitor well pair data quality to ensure accurate instrumentation and testing data is collected
- Maintain a strong understanding of developing technology in SAGD wellbore design
- Support subsurface requirements for observation well instrumentation
Qualifications:
- An Engineering degree and at least 3-5 years of experience in SAGD recovery process
- Field experience in a thermal operation would be considered a strong asset
- A proven ability to work independently and possess excellent interpersonal and team skills
- Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and effective time management skills
- Strong knowledge of advanced analytical tools such as PI systems and Tableau
- Experience with ESPs and rod pump artificial lift systems
- Working knowledge of heavy oil treating, steam generation and water treatment process and equipment
- Experience with the design, completion and operation of SAGD wells and related pad surface facilities
- Experience with wellbore simulation software
- Familiarity with P&ID's, PFD's, and other process related documentation
- The position is based in Calgary, but occasional travel to the field is expected
- Member of APEGA or eligible to become a registered professional member
