Job Description:Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is seeking an experienced Thermal Engineer with testing focus to lead the validation and characterization of cooling solutions for next-generation high-density server, networking, and data center platforms. This role places strong emphasis on hands-on thermal testing, lab execution, and data-driven validation, ensuring solutions meet HPE's stringent performance, reliability, and quality standards.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in thermal test methodologies, instrumentation, and system-level validation, and thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environment
This role will be based in our Sunnyvale, CA office five days a week.Key Responsibilities- Perform hands-on thermal testing including system setup, instrumentation, validation, and troubleshooting in lab environments
- Design and implement robust test setups using thermocouples, RTDs, IR thermography, and data acquisition systems
- Measure and analyze temperature profiles, airflow, and pressure drop across complex electronic systems
- Conduct thermal characterization and validation of cooling solutions including heat sinks, heat pipes, vapor chambers, fans, and liquid cooling components
- Execute system-level airflow and thermal performance testing to verify compliance with design specifications
- Identify thermal risks, perform root cause analysis, and drive design improvements with cross-functional teams
- Lead development and execution of thermal test strategies and plans for HPE server and networking platforms
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and system engineers to ensure solutions meet HPE platform requirements and reliability standards
- Support platform bring-up, qualification testing, and reliability validation activities
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME required) or related field
- 10+ years of engineering experience, including at least 7 years in thermal testing/validation of electronic systems
- Strong hands-on experience with thermal lab setup, instrumentation, and test execution
- Expertise in air-cooled systems, including fan characterization, airflow optimization, and heat sink validation
- Experience with thermal measurement techniques (thermocouples, RTDs, IR cameras, DAQ systems)
- Strong capability in data analysis, correlation, and problem-solving based on test result
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in automating thermal test processes, including scripting, data acquisition automation, and test efficiency improvements
- Background in servers, networking, or high-reliability systems
- Create clear, structured test reports and validation documentation for engineering and program reviews
