Test Supervisor Job Summary: The
Test Supervisor oversees a team of tech technicians who conduct a variety of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical tests on electronic systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure each unit functions according to specifications or to determine the cause of a unit failure. Additionally, this individual interfaces directly with internal and external customers to provide support for test approaches, fixtures and procedures.
Test Supervisor Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Supervises, trains, evaluates and coordinates activities of test department staff.
- Supports team operations by determining the prioritization and organization of daily workload.
- Provides technical support to test technicians on various testing activities.
- Confers with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and others regarding testing procedures and results. Assists engineers in the development of test procedures and processes.
- Reviews test procedures, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine test equipment, test fixtures and setup to be used for functional testing.
- Identifies, justifies and procures new test equipment when needed, and generates standard operating procedures for this equipment.
- Performs internal certifications and calibrations of test equipment per approved procedures.
- Tests functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions using test equipment such as digital multi-meters, hi-pot testers, signal generators, frequency meters, spectrum analyzers or oscilloscopes.
- Records test data, compares results with specifications, and generates Non-Conformance Reports for items that do not meet specifications.
- Analyzes test results on defective units to determine cause of failure, applying electronics theory to troubleshoot down to the component level, collaborating with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and others on how to resolve the failure.
- Uploads production software into electronic memory devices in accordance with engineering documentation.
- Provides cost and labor estimates for test equipment and activities, in support of Gavial quotes and proposals.
- Generates connection diagrams and/or wiring lists based on electrical schematics and interprets these schematics for assembly and wiring personnel.
- Manages the Gavial ESD program, including training.
- Ensures security of testing material and/or equipment and reports any violations to appropriate management.
Experience/Education:- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering or related field and 5+ years of experience testing electronic, mechanical, or electro-mechanical systems.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
Skills Required:- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read electrical schematics.
- Proficient in computer-based testing and use of MS Office Suite.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Familiarity with LabVIEW or similar testing software desired.
