Full Job Description
Job Summary
The Test Engineer, BMS Hardware will develop and execute design-verification testing for Battery Management System (BMS) PCBAs and integrated systems. The role will interpret schematics and system requirements, determine appropriate test methodologies, develop test procedures, perform hands-on bench testing, analyze results, and communicate findings to hardware, firmware, and systems engineering teams. This is an electrical hardware validation role focused on board and system-level testing rather than software QA or primarily automated testing.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop test plans and verification procedures based on schematics and system requirements.
• Execute functional, reliability, and environmental testing at the board and system levels.
• Define test configurations, instrumentation, and calibration requirements.
• Analyze test data, document results, and maintain requirements-to-test traceability.
• Troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis of hardware failures in collaboration with engineering teams.
• Support test-readiness and design-verification reviews.
• Contribute lightweight test automation where it improves repeatability or testing throughput.
• Follow laboratory safety requirements and applicable compliance standards.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in PCBA hardware testing, validation, or design verification.
• Ability to derive test methods from schematics and ambiguous or incomplete requirements rather than only executing existing procedures.
• Strong board- and system-level testing knowledge, including BMS architecture and analog/digital circuits.
• Experience with embedded interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART, with strong emphasis on CAN.
• Hands-on experience using electrical engineering laboratory and bench equipment, including oscilloscopes, differential probes, multimeters, power supplies, DAQ systems, and environmental chambers.
• Experience testing and troubleshooting electrical hardware up to approximately 85V.
• Exposure to firmware verification, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, and/or driver-level debugging.
• Strong technical documentation, requirements traceability, and technical communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with batteries, BMS, automotive systems, energy storage, or safety-critical electronics.
• Experience with DVP&R and root-cause analysis.
• Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama, Polarion, DOORS, or similar platforms.
• Experience with Python, AI-assisted scripting, and UL/compliance testing.
