Job SummaryReporting to the Manager, Strategic Initiatives, the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator (Community Support Programs) will implement and coordinate access to programs and services to address local complex social issues such as crime, homelessness, and community wellbeing. The position will proactively lead and facilitate municipal solutions for these areas, while consulting on and facilitating action between various stakeholders.
Job Duties IncludeThe following responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to:
- Provide advice, and problem-solving and conflict resolution support to Council and Town staff.
- Support Council initiatives and programs related to community supports.
- Lead the centralized, cross-Departmental coordination of the Town's response to encampments and other matters related to the unsheltered population occurring on or near Town property, including attending on-site cleanups
- Collaborate with agencies and committees serving the unsheltered population to facilitate and leverage system-wide strategic programs and resources
- Create and share annual community safety reports to Senior Management and Council with a focus on data and evidence collected directly by the position and leveraging resources from external, reputable sources.
- Develop and implement Town-focused community safety strategies and actions that align with the provincially legislated Community Safety and Well-Being Plan developed by the Region of Durham.
- Implement cross-sectoral projects (i.e., partnerships between governments, agencies, service providers, community organizations) to address local complex social challenges
- Hold community forums and initiate information sharing activities with neighborhoods, community agencies, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications/Skills- Undergraduate degree specializing in Community Health, Social Services, Non-profit Management, Community Safety, Public Administration or Business.
- Extensive related work or lived experience may be considered as equivalent to formal education
- Experience working with vulnerable and underrepresented populations, as well as the agencies that work to support them.
- Knowledge of crime prevention strategies and measures to reduce the risk of crime occurring.
- Understanding of mental illness, addictions, harm-reduction, the stigma and intersectional discrimination that surround them.
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with partners from varying sectors including academic, government and community agencies.
- Strong critical and strategic thinking skills.
- Experience coordinating programs and working with groups in a collaborative environment.
- Excellent relationship management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Autonomous worker with the ability to adapt and work within a team setting.
- Strong research and data collection/analysis skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite/Office365, and common meeting and collaboration tools.
What is Offered to Staff- Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position.
- Contract Duration: This temporary full-time position is for approximately 18 months in duration.
- Hours of Work: This is a non-union full-time position that works 40 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
