Brief Summary of Work for this Position

Research Execution & Algorithm Development
  • Collaborate with PIs to execute the research translation roadmap for biosignal research.
  • Develop algorithms for the acquisition, denoising, and classification of EEG and ECG biosignals.
  • Design and develop novel ML/AI solutions for biosignal cleaning, denoising, and prediction, including approaches based on statistical machine learning, deep learning, and Transformer architectures.
  • Perform signal analysis in both the Fourier (frequency) domain and the time domain with equal proficiency.
  • Design and implement digital signal processing pipelines for noisy biosignal environments.
  • Develop and refine research methodologies for biosignal acquisition and analysis.
  • Contribute to the design and development of IC chip-based biosignal acquisition systems.

Laboratory & Team Management
  • Manage day-to-day research operations of the biosignal collection laboratory.
  • Supervise, train, and coordinate contingent student research assistants performing data collection.
  • Ensure all data collection protocols comply with IRB requirements and human subjects protections.
  • Maintain data quality standards and establish best practices for biosignal acquisition.
  • Manage laboratory equipment, including BioSemi ActiveTwo data acquisition systems.

Data Collection & Human Subjects Research
  • Collect EEG and ECG signals using both dry and wet electrode systems.
  • Maintain current CITI certification for human subjects' research.
  • Develop and document research protocols for biosignal data collection.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations for human subjects research

Scholarly Output
  • Contribute to and lead the preparation of peer-reviewed research publications.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Assist with progress reports and grant-related documentation for the NCI.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science

  • Published peer-reviewed research articles of EEG, ECG, sleep research or related biosignal topics.

  • Deep research experience collecting and analyzing biosignals, with a preference for EEG and ECG signals.
  • Experience analyzing EEG signals from noisy environments.
  • Working knowledge of statistical machine learning techniques, deep learning approaches, and Transformer architectures as applied to signal processing.
  • Experience developing ML/AI solutions for biosignal cleaning, denoising, and prediction.
  • Experience working with human subjects, including current CITI certification.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The College of Science and Engineering offers a variety of programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, as well as Doctor of Philosophy degrees in applied coastal and ocean sciences; pharmaceutical chemistry; integrative, comparative, and marine biology; and psychology. The college also offers combined bachelor's/master's degree programs in information technology/computer science and information systems, computer science/computer science and information systems, B.S. in mathematics/M.S. in mathematics, coastal engineering/coastal and ocean policy, and psychology/applied gerontology. To implement its academic programs, the college provides instruction and research opportunities in the natural and behavioral sciences, information technology, data science, computer science, mathematics, pre-engineering, and engineering. The eight academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in information technology, cybersecurity, and digital arts. A 2+2 in engineering; and 3+2 programs in computer science and electrical or computer engineering; and physics and electrical engineering, are also offered in the college. Post-baccalaureate certificate programs in environmental studies, applied statistics, and geographic information science are also available.

CSE students work with distinguished faculty and scientists, use cutting edge technology, and conduct impactful research.
