Job Summary Provides engineering support for telecommunications infrastructure enabling safe, reliable utility operations, including P25 LMR 800 MHz systems, towers, shelters, antennas, cabling, radio equipment, power, HVAC, grounding, lighting, alarming, and related infrastructure.
Supports projects from concept through closeout. Coordinates with Civil and Structural Engineering, Environmental Services, Project Management, Telecom Field Services, consultants, contractors, and regulators.
Focus: P25 LMR 800 MHz infrastructure, sites, power, grounding, structural coordination, compliance, and project execution. IP networking is secondary.
Job DescriptionWhat you'll do:Telecom Infrastructure Engineering- Engineer and support P25 LMR 800 MHz systems and site infrastructure.
- Develop requirements for telecom site systems and infrastructure.
- Assess equipment compatibility, space, capacity, access, maintainability, safety, reliability, and constructability.
P25 LMR 800 MHz Radio System Engineering and Support- Support P25 LMR 800 MHz engineering, reliability, maintenance, and lifecycle needs.
- Develop requirements for radio and supporting site equipment.
- Support expansions, upgrades, capacity improvements, replacements, and retirements.
- Coordinate implementation, testing, acceptance, troubleshooting, restoration, and documentation.
- Analyze radio-site issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain equipment records, drawings, configurations, test results, alarms, acceptance records, and asset updates.
Civil and Structural Engineering Coordination- Define tower and site-development requirements with Civil and Structural engineers.
- Coordinate tower loading, structural evaluations, foundations, mounts, and modifications.
- Provide data and design criteria for civil and structural deliverables.
- Review engineering deliverables for scope and telecom alignment.
Environmental, Aviation, and Regulatory Compliance- Support NEPA reviews and environmental documentation for new or modified facilities.
- Coordinate environmental reviews.
- Support FAA evaluations, notices, lighting, marking, and documentation.
- Support FCC requirements and applicable local, state, and federal permitting.
- Incorporate compliance and safety requirements into project execution.
Project Engineering and Execution- Support projects from planning through closeout.
- Prepare and review engineering and construction deliverables.
- Represent Telecom Engineering across disciplines.
- Review field conditions, RFIs, deviations, and changes.
- Support installation verification, testing, acceptance, turnover, and asset updates.
Site Assessment and Technical Analysis- Conduct site surveys and existing-condition assessments.
- Perform or validate site engineering analyses.
- Analyze problems and recommend practical solutions.
Consultant, Contractor, and Stakeholder Coordination- Develop technical scopes for engineering firms and service providers.
- Review consultant and contractor deliverables.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and service providers.
- Communicate technical information clearly.
Standards, Documentation, and Continuous Improvement- Follow company policies, engineering standards, safety requirements, processes, and agency requirements.
- Maintain complete engineering and closeout records.
Improve standards, workflows, and project execution.
- Build AEP telecom knowledge and provide cross-training.
What we're looking for:Telecom Consultant Associate SG6Education:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study
- Or associate's degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience
- Or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.
Experience:
- No additional experience, other than what is listed above, is required.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Driver's License is Required.
Telecom Consultant SG7Education:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study
- Or associate's degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience
- Or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.
Experience:
- Two (2) years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Driver's License is Required.
In addition:
- Ability to travel occasionally to field locations.
- Effective verbal and written communication and cross-organizational collaboration.
- Experience with telecom sites, towers, utility infrastructure, or radio systems.
- Knowledge of telecom site systems and infrastructure.
- Experience with structural designs, tower loading, construction, or field implementation.
- Familiarity with FAA, NEPA, FCC, permitting, environmental coordination, and consultant deliverables.
- Understanding telecom, utility, construction, and maintenance interfaces.
- IP networking experience is valued when combined with telecom infrastructure or wireless radio experience.

Compensation Range:$74,551.00 - $109,543.00
