About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Head of Data and Digital to drive Wells Fargo's Global Payments & Liquidity Data and Digital technology strategy by delivering business growth, digital innovation, platform modernization, operational resilience, and talent transformation through a world-class engineering organization. This role combines business strategy, technology execution, engineering leadership, and organizational leadership and reports to CIO of GPL.

In this role, you will:

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the GPL Data & Digital technology strategy.
  • Translate business growth opportunities into technology roadmaps.
  • Influence senior business leaders and technology executives.
  • Drive modernization, digital transformation, and AI adoption.

2. Large Scale Engineering Leadership

  • Lead multiple engineering organizations through engineering managers.
  • Establish engineering standards for:
    • Software craftsmanship
    • Security
    • Resilience
    • Availability
    • Scalability
  • Foster an engineering-first culture focused on innovation and continuous improvement.

3. Payments & Liquidity Domain Expertise

The successful leader is expected to understand:

  • Payment’s modernization
  • Digital treasury solutions
  • API and channel technologies
  • Real-time and instant payments
  • Data and analytics platforms
  • Client-facing digital experiences

4. Executive Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong relationships with GPL business leaders.
  • Influence decisions without direct authority.
  • Represent Wells Fargo with regulators, industry forums, and external partners.
  • Drive alignment across product, operations, risk, and technology teams.

5. Financial & Risk Management

  • Manage large technology budgets.
  • Optimize workforce strategy.
  • Drive regulatory and operational risk initiatives.
  • Balance innovation with stability and control.

6. Talent Leadership

  • Build and retain top engineering talent.
  • Develop next-generation leaders.
  • Create succession plans.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning

In this role, you will:

• Manage and develop a high performing program delivery team and managers with focus on delivering highly complexity programs.

• Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control development by utilizing research and data in addition to in depth understanding of organizational goals, priorities, and technology while developing executable strategies and plans.

• Lead Program Management team by making strategic decisions to resolve highly complex issues to meet high risk deliverables.

• Interpret and develop range of policies and procedures for technology business functions with moderate to high level of complexity and risk.

• Collaborate with and influence all levels of professionals including technology industry leaders, financial industry leaders, analysts, and regulators, as well as interact directly with more experienced leadership and executive management.

• Manage allocation of people and financial resources for complex technology programs.

• Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 4+ years of management or leadership experience
  • 6+ years' Experience managing Technology Business Services teams (aka technology COO organizations)
  • 5+ years developing and implementing technology strategy
  • 5+ Demonstrated prior experiences in effective engagement with senior technology and business stakeholders
  • 5+ years experiences in effective management of technology financials and risk

  • Ability to effectively drive and lead change in an organization with Wells Fargo’s size, scale and complexity.
  • Demonstrated experience in building, leading, developing and retaining a high performing team of leaders, strong technical experts and high performing professionals in a cultural environment that achieves results through team member engagement and satisfaction.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the financial, operational, technical and regulatory drivers impacting a complex and dynamic global technology environment.
  • Ability to develop technology strategy, operating model & roadmaps with clear objectives and aligned with business, data and technology strategies.
  • Proven experience as a highly effective leader with credibility from demonstrating strong business and technology acumen.
  • Highly effective decision-making/critical thinking/problem solving skills with a collaborative and results oriented leadership style.
  • Demonstrated experience motivating and influencing groups or individuals across organizational boundaries to gain trust and confidence to make timely decisions.
  • Proven experience in establishing a vision, developing the strategy to support the vision, gaining consensus across key functional leadership through effective communication, and driving action towards the vision through the effective management of goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated vendor negotiation and partnership skills. • Strong communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of the various regulatory regimes (e.g. the Senior Manager Regime) in the UK, EMEA and APAC.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
