Full Job Description

The Digital Sector at Leidos has an opening for an experienced Technical Writer for the DISA Defense Red Switch Network in support of an enterprise VoIP management system on the GSM-O II contract at Fort Meade, MD. The successful candidate will have a technical writing background responsible for documenting and translating highly technical information into clear, readable documents for technical and non-technical personnel. The candidate will support the creation of a variety of media including HTML pages, complex technical graphics, Technical Implementation Guides (TIGs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and briefing presentations. 

The successful candidate will develop, write, edit, and proofread technical manuals and documents and provide writing support for the team using tools such as Microsoft Word and markdown language. The candidate will also be responsible for creating, modifying, and reviewing technical diagrams using tools such as Microsoft Visio and Microsoft PowerPoint. The successful candidate will have the ability to maintain exceptional communication and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Compose technical documentation including the Technical Implementation Guides (TIGs), user manuals, technical specifications, installation guides, system security plans, system requirements documents, standard operating procedures, installation guides and briefings
  • Conduct research to support and extend technical content as needed
  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards and guidelines
  • Actively support all phases of the documentation lifecycle, including structuring content architecture, writing, editing, verifying accuracy, and delivery
  • Create document templates and shells
  • Coordinate with system engineers and subject matter experts, to ensure all developed content is consistent, validated, and verified
  • Ensure the use of proper technical terminology in team-produced artifacts
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions per an established document development life cycle
  • Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others
  • Leverage AI technologies to boost team throughput and rapidly develop documentation templates and initial drafts under compressed schedules

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active DoW SECRET Clearance
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree with 4–8 years of relevant experience, OR a master’s degree with 3–5 years of experience. (Equivalent work experience, specialized training, or education may be considered in lieu of a degree).
  • Technical Writing: Proven experience translating complex engineering data into user-friendly documents. Experience in a structured authoring environment is required.
  • SME Collaboration: Experience drafting documentation directly from interviews and inputs from software, systems, and network engineers (not just editing existing text).
  • Tools & Formats: Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, writing/editing in markdown, and creating/editing technical diagrams in Visio.
  • Defense/Intelligence Community (IC) Support: Direct experience performing technical editing on IC technical and reference documents.
  • Autonomy & Pace: Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and hit compressed deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Experience providing weekly status updates, building productivity charts, and developing presentations.
  • Change Management: Demonstrated experience maintaining version control when implementing large-scale technical changes under tight schedule constraints.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with Configuration Management documentation of preferred
  • General knowledge of IT Security principles with attention to detail in identifying areas of risk
  • Understanding of network management
  • Experience developing and testing written procedures in a lab environment

Pay Range $65,650.00 - $118,675.00
