Description & RequirementsMotive is looking for a Technical UI Designer to join our Iron Man team and help design, implement, and perfect our HUD and menu interfaces on Unreal Engine 5.
As a Technical UI Designer, you will report to a Lead Technical Experience Designer and work with UX Design, Art, and Programming, and serve as a nexus for UI implementation in the game. You will work with Unreal Engine, using visual scripting to bring the art, motion graphics, and UX of the game to life at AAA standards of quality. You are comfortable taking ownership of features from concept to ship, iterating based on feedback, and advocating for best practices throughout the production cycle. Our ultimate goal is to make the player's experience as intuitive and appealing as possible.
Responsibilities:
- You will implement user interfaces using Unreal Engine's visual scripting tools.
- You will build upon wireframes and design docs, then iterate to achieve a visual target and a user experience.
- You will work with your peers in UI Art, UX Design, Game Design, and Programming to bring amazing interfaces to life.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience implementing in-game UI features, including screens, widgets, logic, and data flows, in a professional game development environment, specifically in Unreal Engine
- Technical and logical reasoning skills, with experience delivering AAA-quality UI features
- Experience with UI/UX design principles, including typography, layout, motion, and visual fidelity
- Proficiency in rapid prototyping to test and improve on UI concepts independently, from ideation through implementation
- Commitment to accessibility and inclusive design, with experience creating player experiences that are usable by all
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain and refine features throughout the production cycle
- Collaborative mindset with an ability to work alongside engineers, scripters, UX designers, UI artists, producers, and directors
- Document features, participate in design and code reviews, and advocate for best practices
- Willingness to grow within an experienced team
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in game development, working within game engines on AA or AAA titles
- Experience collaborating across departments (gameplay, engineering, design, and art) to deliver high-quality UI features
- Hands-on experience shipping at least one feature or UI component in a released game, with ownership from implementation to delivery
Bonus Skills:
- Familiarity with other UI systems such as Unity UI, Flash, ImGui, WPF, and Qt.
- Experience working with proprietary tech stacks or influencing UI frameworks within a large-scale project
- Experience working with C++
