JOB SUMMARY:

TheManager, Technical Training leads Alabama Power's Power Delivery technical training organization. This role is responsible for ensuring line workers are properly prepared to safely construct, operate, maintain, and restore transmission, distribution, and substation systems. This position requires technical expertise, leadership, customer focus, and strategic vision to ensure the workforce is prepared for current and future business needs. The key responsibilities include leading the staff, overseeing training programs, managing budgets, supporting strengthening relationships, and promoting a culture of safety, learning, and continuous improvement.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred OR equivalent work experience.

Experience:
  • Experience in supervisory and/or managerial role required.
  • Experience in a leadership role within Power Delivery preferred.
  • Experience in a training role preferred.
  • Experience with Collective Bargaining Agreement preferred.
  • Experience managing resources including budgets, facilities, and equipment.
  • Experience with administration of Company policies, safety rules, and OSHA's regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and schedules.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Technical knowledge of Transmission, Distribution, and Substation systems.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods and evaluation processes.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and safety related work practices.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to establish expectations, evaluate, manage, and develop talent.
  • Ability to listen to customers' needs and respond with a long-term perspective.
  • Ability to build and leverage relationships to foster collaboration and teamwork.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Model and instill Our Values.
  • Manage overall performance of Power Delivery Technical Training in a manner that is efficient for the business and effective for the learner.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members through Connected Conversation process.
  • Provide oversight into curriculum content, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Respond promptly to emerging training needs to ensure training content reflects current business needs, safety related work practices, standards, and equipment.
  • Manage and adjust training schedules based on operational and business needs.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage training budgets and POET accounts.
  • Represent Power Delivery Technical Training on system-wide and selective electrical utility industry committees to evaluate trends and ensure PD Technical Training is a respected leader across the industry.
  • Provide input and guidance on equipment, tools, material, procedures and standards.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders such as Labor Relations and PD Safety to ensure consistent interpretation of policies and procedures to minimize any confusion or inconsistency while improving worker safety.
  • Support external workforce development efforts related to Power Delivery including technical colleges, career days, and day in the life events.
  • Partner with Training Support to identify new opportunities to drive consistency across Power Delivery while enhancing curriculum content and delivery methods.
  • Foster innovation by leverage existing and emerging technologies, digital tools, and instructional methods to align with business needs and better decisions.
  • Collaborate across operating companies to identify and blend system training programs where feasible.

Support storm restoration efforts by being available to work assigned storm duty, which may include evenings, holidays, and overnight travel.
