Who We AreMission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking a qualified Technical Support Specialist - Systems Engineer 3 to support the Navy Surface Warfare Center Corona (NSWC Corona) in delivering Navy Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training. This role provides technical leadership and engineering support for the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) and Navy Training Baseline (NTB) as part of the NCTE Mission Engineering Division (MED).
The selected candidate will help lead the planning and execution of LVC training events and will oversee the deployment and configuration of NTB software components across the NCTE enterprise. Additional duties include performing engineering and project activities that sustain LVC products and integrated capabilities within the NCTE.
This position is located at NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and requires periodic local travel to customer sites in Virginia Beach and Norfolk.
What You Will Do- Serve as the Engineering Technical Lead in support to NCTE Fleet Synthetic Training (FST), LVC, and COCOM level training events, collaborating closely with operational and engineering leads to define, align, and execute comprehensive technical requirements.
- Serve as a member of the NCTE Engineering Sustainment Team installing and configuring new NTB software releases, upgrades, and patches.
- Provide engineering related support for NTB setup and configuration during the planning and execution of training events.
- Evaluate and resolve moderately complex software related problems.
- Partner with multi-disciplinary divisions and cross-functional leadership to develop robust manning/resourcing plans for NCTE training event
execution. - Perform pre-event interoperability risk assessment and mitigation by working with stake holders to identify capabilities and limitations of various integrated training systems, virtual simulators, live ships, and other LVC event participants to meet training requirements and objectives.
- Architect scalable systems supporting event-specific requirements; generate and maintain formal architecture artifacts (e.g., DoDAF SV-1 and SV-2) using tools such as Microsoft Visio.
- Develop and maintain technical architecture, configuration, and status documentation.
- Direct real-time technical operations and monitor end-to-end system health of NTB products during LVC event execution to ensure uninterrupted training delivery.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues across LVC environments, specifically focusing on NTB Interoperability, simulation protocols (HLA/DIS), and interface standards.
- Deliver rapid, real-time technical support during LVC training exercises with integrated systems and capabilities to eliminate protocol misconfigurations and minimize impact on training fidelity.
What You Must Have- 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
- Candidate must have a thorough understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems and be able to use advanced capabilities such as (but not limited to): command line interface, scripting, network interface configuration, device configuration, domain management, and file sharing/mapping.
- Candidate must have technical leadership ability.
- Candidate must be able to address technical issues by understanding which engineering domain problems belong to and then assign engineers from the appropriate domains to resolve issues.
- Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable communicating at various levels of the organization. This may involve lower-level technical collaboration on issues with assigned engineers or high level explanation of issues and/or status updates with senior leadership.
- Candidate must be familiar with MS Office.
- Candidate must have a current CompTIA Security + certification is required for the position.
- Candidate must currently hold and be able to maintain a US Secret clearance.
Bonus Points For Having! - Familiarity with core simulation software systems such as Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF), Next Generation Threat System (NGTS), or Joint Theater Level Simulation - Global Operations (JTLS-GO).
- Ability to utilize network and distributed modeling & simulation tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, VMware vSphere, Run-Time Infrastructure (RTI) FederateList/Houston, and Joint Simulation Bus (JBUS) is preferred.
- Knowledge of distributed simulation protocols such as High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS).
- Familiarity with networking concepts, architectures, and protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP.
- Experience with MS Visio software to produce technical architecture drawings.
- Knowledge of Navy C4I tactical systems such as Link 16 and GCCS.
- Experience working with Navy systems and/or commands.
Physical RequirementsOffice, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
