Full Job Description
The Applied Space Systems Group (97) develops environmental monitoring electro-optical and microwave sensor systems for remote sensing applications. The group supports partners in US Government organizations as well as industry. Activities include development of electro-optical and microwave sensors; system and architecture analysis; signal processing, data analysis and algorithm development. The group seeks physicists, astronomers, applied mathematicians, electrical engineers, computer engineers, and those with related experience who have interest in developing cutting edge space remote sensing technologies for future missions.

Job Description

Group 97, The Applied Space Systems Group, seeks an Electrical Engineer to join our team, focused on building and integrating advanced electro-optical and microwave sensor systems. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with imaging scientists as well as optical, mechanical, and electrical engineers to design, prototype, integrate, and deploy highly integrated sensor systems for terrestrial and space applications. This role emphasizes hands-on execution and system-level ownership, including electronics design, test, debug, as well as integration with sensors, optics, and mechanical assemblies.

Requirements
  • PhD, or MS + 8 years of experience required in Electrical Engineering or related technical field. In lieu of MS, BS with 10 + years of related experience is acceptable.
  • Significant professional or academic experience in at least two of the following areas, and some familiarity and career interest in several others:
    • Electronics Design: power systems, DC/DC converters, PCB schematic capture and layout, parts selection, circuit simulation
    • Space systems: vehicle design, space environment design and analysis, EMI/EMC/ESD design and test requirements for aerospace hardware, including spacecraft level grounding and electrical interface control definitions
    • Physics: classical electromagnetics, ionizing radiation
    • Practical skills: investigative data analysis and rapid troubleshooting of systems; familiarity with test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other electronic test hardware for the validation and debugging of electronics and components
    • Test design, procedure development, and execution
    • Ground support equipment development for space systems
    • Hardware assembly: clean room and ESD / test environment experience
    • Automated analysis and reporting: tools, custom analysis applications with user interfaces
  • Demonstrable ability to
    • Develop respectful, productive working relationships
    • Communicate clearly, precisely, and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences
    • Solve broad and/or complex technical or engineering problems
    • Learn and apply advanced technical knowledge quickly and proficiently
  • Analytical and/or scientific programming proficiency (e.g. MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or similar)
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance highly desired

Recent Graduate Hiring Range: $145,200-$170,000
Experienced Hiring Range: $145,200-$220,000
