Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual contributor to fill the position of Technical Service Specialist within our Technology organization.  The position will reside at our Corporate Office in Dallas, Texas and support our Basic Chemicals business.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Maintain, as our highest priority, the protection of the environment, the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products.
  • Understand and work in accordance with all site safety and environmental procedures including the site Chemical Hygiene Plan.  Adhere to the use of personal protective equipment as required.
  • Provide technical support to OxyChem customers, sales force, business management, and supply chain to maintain and grow the business.
  • Serve as OxyChem’s primary technical contact with customers. Respond to technical inquiries from current and potential customers.
  • Recommend product specifications, quality parameters, and shipping guidelines that meet plant capabilities and customer needs.
  • Recommend product quality improvements and provide direction for new product development based on customer feedback.
  • Investigate customer quality complaints related to the performance of portfolio products, and recommend corrective actions to customers, manufacturing, business management and other internal functional groups.
  • Report results in the form of spreadsheets, charts, graphs, formalized technical reports, and PowerPoint presentations to customers, sales, business and technical management.
  • Develop Technical Data Sheets and Technical Bulletins related to the characteristics and use of OxyChem portfolio products.
  • Train new Sales and Technical personnel on product applications and safe handling.
  • Perform customer site assessments to ensure safe use and storage of products. Approve new customer ship-to locations before shipments commence.
  • Evaluate data and identify trends, providing a technical basis for conclusions.
  • Review product quality reports to determine disposition of products and identify customer risks associated with non-conforming parameters.
  • Work as an individual contributor or on a team with other technical staff.
  • Keep current of industry technology and ensure that relevant technology is maintained and communicated within the organization. 
  • Work with production staff, customers and outside vendors on projects as needed.
  • Ability to travel to support customers, sales, and business as needed.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with OxyChem manufacturing teams, sales and service teams, and product customers to ensure they are aware of Technical Service capabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with OxyChem safety data sheets, product labels, regulatory and CMA Responsible Care Tenets to promote the safe handling and use of OxyChem products.
  • Willing to lead assignments with the trade associations in which OxyChem is a member leader.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other relevant technical disciplines.
  • 5 years of Chlor-Alkali industry experience or closely related field.
  • Must have knowledge of fundamental chemical principles, laboratory practices, and laboratory and process safety.
  • High degree of problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to occasionally work weekends and holidays and respond to customer and OxyChem business needs.
  • Comfortable interacting and presenting information to customers at all levels of management.
  • Must be able to work in teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 pounds, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in chlor-alkali manufacturing or process development
  • Expertise in water oxidation, hydrochloric acid processes or processing of chlorinated organic products.
  • Experience in interacting directly with customers or vendors.
  • Experience with quality management programs and food safety regulations.
  • Proficiency with CRM, Railtrac, and SAP.
  • Supervisory and/or training experience.
