Technical Project Manager, R&D

Job Summary

The Technical Project Manager will serve as a central coordination point for operational release and change management activities across the R&D organization. Reporting to the Manager of Strategy & Operations for R&D, this role will partner closely with engineering, DevOps, and cloud operations leaders to manage, implement, and facilitate projects and processes that support reliable software delivery and operational excellence.

This role is execution-focused and ideal for an intermediate-level project management professional who thrives in technical environments and enjoys coordinating cross-functional teams, facilitating operational processes, and driving organizational alignment. The individual will play a critical role in executing the release and change management vision established by R&D leadership.

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, experience working within software development organizations, and an understanding of cloud-based software delivery environments.

Responsibilities
  • Release Planning and Coordination: Create and oversee a comprehensive divisional release calendar and schedule that conforms to the corporate standards for all products and services, facilitating feature activations and necessary maintenance activities. Effectively plan, coordinate, and communicate each phase of the release process to ensure stakeholder alignment throughout.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between technology teams (development, QA, DevOps) and operations teams (documentation, support, professional services, sales). Facilitate meetings and discussions to ensure all teams are prepared for key cross-functional initiatives.
  • Documentation and Client Communication: Work closely with the product and documentation teams to ensure all client-facing materials are prepared, accurate, and available in time for each release cycle.
  • Risk and Issue Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to the release process. Proactively address issues and bottlenecks to ensure releases are delivered on time and of high quality.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve the release management process. Implement best practices and tools to increase efficiency, reduce errors, and accelerate the delivery of value to our clients.
  • Change Management Coordination: Coordinate and facilitate change management processes across development, DevOps, and cloud operations teams to ensure production changes are properly documented, reviewed, approved, and communicated. Partner with technical leadership to implement scalable workflows, manage change governance activities, and support operational risk reduction through consistent change management practices.

Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in release management or similar role, preferably within a SaaS organization.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC) and Agile methodologies. Experience with release management tools such as Jira, Harness, or similar platforms. Familiarity with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to clearly articulate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Leadership and Organizational Skills: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and drive projects to completion.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
