The Data Platform team powers CNN's data collection, manipulation and interpretation, allowing leaders to make critical decisions about products and strategic direction. As a Technical Program Manager II, you will contribute to technical efforts as CNN looks to modernize its existing multi-faceted analytics platform into a new, single data platform. The goal is to make Nova CNN's single source of truth for digital behavioral analytics, enabling near real-time analytics and real-time personalization. This is a modernization and enhancement effort. This role will partner closely with our Data Analytics teams to ensure all data is captured and properly presented for immediate insights.

Key Responsibilities

A successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Project management: Define project scope, create and manage project plans, coordinate release schedules, and ensure on-time delivery
  • Cross-functional leadership: Collaborate with engineering, product, and other stakeholders across different teams to align on goals, priorities, and technical strategies
  • Risk and issue management: Identify, track, and mitigate potential risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle, proactively recommending solutions to prevent blockers
  • Technical oversight: Leverage a technical background to understand complex system designs, architecture decisions, and integration points, providing informed recommendations without being the primary engineer
  • Communication and reporting: Create and maintain project documentation, and communicate project status, risks, and impact to stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Dashboarding and program visibility: Build, maintain, and evolve dashboards and reporting views using tools such as Domo, Tableau, or similar platforms to monitor program health, track key performance indicators, identify trends, and communicate actionable insights to stakeholders
  • Process improvement: Develop and refine processes for reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement, including using data and metrics to monitor performance and inform decisions
  • Strategic planning: Contribute to long-term technical and product strategy and help define roadmaps for technical teams
Qualifications
  • Experience: Requires 3+ years of experience in technical program management in a technical or cloud/SaaS environment, with a track record of managing complex, cross-functional projects
  • Education: A 4-year degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is often preferred, or equivalent work experience
  • Project management skills: Proficiency in project management disciplines, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk management
  • Stakeholder management: Exceptional skills in building relationships and communicating effectively with diverse groups of people across the organization
  • Technical acumen: A solid technical background with the ability to engage deeply with engineering teams in complex technical details. Capable of engaging with an engineer and discussing data flow from client event to dashboard.
  • Dashboarding tools: Hands-on experience with dashboarding and business intelligence tools such as Domo, Tableau, or similar platforms, with the ability to define metrics, track program health, identify trends, and support data-informed decision-making
  • Data analysis: Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to independently interrogate datasets, validate metrics, investigate discrepancies, and translate data into actionable program insights.
  • Data platform technical fluency: Working knowledge of modern data architectures, including event instrumentation, data pipelines, batch and streaming systems, data modeling, APIs, schemas, data quality, lineage, and observability. Candidates should be comfortable discussing architecture and technical tradeoffs with data and software engineers.
  • Cloud and data technologies: Experience working with cloud-based data ecosystems and technologies such as AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, Kafka/Kinesis, Spark, Airflow, or comparable platforms.
  • Reliability and governance: Familiarity with data quality, SLAs/SLOs, monitoring, incident management, privacy, access controls, metadata, lineage, and data governance practices.
