Minimum qualifications:

  • 9 years of years of experience in Electrical, Mechanical/Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC), or controls experience in an industrial/commercial environment.
  • 3 years of experience in a data center or facilities environment.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, or Reliability Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance and in Engineering.
  • Experience communicating effectively with all levels of the organization, including executives.
  • Ability to forecast resource requirements in a data-driven way.


About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a Technical Operations Manager, you will be involved in nearly every aspect of co-location operations for our electrical, cooling, and IT infrastructure. You will partner with the Google Data Center engineering teams, hardware operations, network infrastructure, and third-party data center vendors and operators with a focus on operability, maintainability, and reliability. You will represent the operations organization, and will be responsible to ensure operability, maintainability, and reliability are critical criteria for Google assets.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $138000 - $201000 (USD) 15% bonus target equity benefits

Responsibilities
  • Test, validate, improve, and certify new processes and procedures for critical equipment operation for data center domain.
  • Lead efforts to perform compliance activities for a data center and analyze compliance results for data centers globally, ensuring regional and global teams adhere to project/schedule guidelines and Google design standards.
  • Monitor data center systems operations, control site activities to minimize risk, and to ensure effective response to any excursions.
  • Ensure sites follow facility, maintenance, and standard programs globally while exhibiting strength in improvement to said policies and programs.
  • Develop strategies to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact at a site, along with managing site-level development of programs and initiatives.
