Shaw Industries is seeking a Technical Manager to lead product development, innovation, and technical initiatives across our Commercial, Specialty, and Turf businesses. In this role, you will drive the development of new products and technologies, evaluate sustainable raw materials, identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings, and lead cross-functional teams from concept through commercialization.
This position combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, and people leadership to deliver innovative solutions that enhance product performance, support business growth, and maintain Shaw's competitive advantage in the marketplace.
What You'll Do- Lead product development and innovation projects across commercial flooring, specialty products, and turf solutions.
- Identify and evaluate new raw materials, technologies, and manufacturing processes to improve product performance, sustainability, and cost competitiveness.
- Manage the development process from concept through commercialization, including lab studies, pilot trials, and production trials.
- Partner with Manufacturing, R&D, Marketing, Quality, Sustainability, Sourcing, and Operations teams to establish product requirements and successfully launch new products.
- Analyze technical data, communicate results, and present recommendations to business leaders and stakeholders across the organization.
- Drive process improvement initiatives that improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and overall cost performance.
- Provide technical support and leadership for manufacturing operations by troubleshooting product and process-related challenges.
- Lead intellectual property initiatives, including invention disclosures, patent development activities, and competitive technology assessments.
- Build, coach, and develop technical talent while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing team culture.
- Ensure products meet applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, and sustainability standards.
What We're Looking For- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Chemical Engineering preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in carpet, carpet tile, turf, flooring, or related manufacturing environments, OR 8+ years of broader manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical projects, new product development efforts, or innovation initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project leadership skills.
- Experience collaborating across multiple functions and influencing stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, FMEA, or similar continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Prior leadership, mentoring, or team development experience preferred.
