The role defines and manages the technical strategy, architecture, integration, lifecycle, and governance for both software platforms and mobile devices used across maintenance, reliability, operations, inspections, and field execution.

This position evaluates, designs, deploys, and continuously improves the integrated mobile worker environment, including the core platform, applications, integrations, device standards, device provisioning, endpoint security, lifecycle refresh processes, and support model. As the primary technology authority, the role partners with Operations, Reliability, Engineering, IT, OT, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, regional mill IT teams, and external providers to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, supportable, financially planned, and aligned with Sylvamo's digital manufacturing roadmap.

Success requires strong expertise in industrial digital technologies, mobile workforce platforms, mobile device management, endpoint standards, asset management systems, operational technology environments, and enterprise system integration, with the ability to translate business needs into sustainable technical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Technology Strategy & Architecture
  • Define and maintain the enterprise Mobile Worker technology roadmap and architecture.
  • Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert for connected worker, digital work execution, mobile inspection, digital procedures, and frontline workforce technologies.
  • Define separate but connected roadmaps for the mobile platform, device standards, device lifecycle, and endpoint management capabilities.
  • Partner with regional mill IT groups to define lifecycle refresh processes for mobile devices, accessories, endpoint tools, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Establish technical standards, governance models, and integration approaches that ensure scalable deployment across manufacturing operations.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends related to industrial mobility, augmented worker solutions, AI-enabled work execution, wearable technologies, and connected worker platforms.
  • Collaborate with Innovation to evaluate additional mobile hardware, ruggedized devices, peripherals, connectivity options, and device management tools required for safe and reliable use in mill environments.
  • Develop technology investment recommendations, business cases, and capability roadmaps aligned to Digital Transformation objectives.
  • Ensure alignment between Mobile Worker solutions and broader manufacturing technology ecosystems including APM, CMMS, historians, MES, Industrial Data Platforms, and analytics solutions.

Solution Design & System Integration
  • Lead end-to-end technical solution design for Mobile Worker capabilities.
  • Define integration requirements between Mobile Worker platforms and enterprise systems including SAP, EAM/CMMS, historians, IoT platforms, identity management systems, and analytics environments.
  • Ensure data models, workflows, mobility standards, cybersecurity requirements, and system architectures support enterprise scalability.
  • Partner with IT and OT teams to establish secure and sustainable infrastructure for Mobile Worker solutions.
  • Partner with IT, OT, Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity teams to define device provisioning, identity access, endpoint protection, patching, monitoring, and support requirements.
  • Drive technical decisions regarding platform configuration, customization, APIs, interoperability, and future-state architecture.
  • Ensure platform workflows and mobile device capabilities work together to support offline access, field usability, scanning, notifications, safety requirements, and operational execution.

Platform, Device Ownership & Vendor Management
  • Act as the technical owner for Mobile Worker technology platforms and associated vendor relationships.
  • Own the technical lifecycle for approved mobile devices, including selection criteria, configuration standards, refresh planning, accessories, and retirement approach.
  • Work with regional mill IT teams to translate device lifecycle standards into refresh schedules, replacement criteria, inventory planning, and mill-level budget inputs.
  • Lead technology evaluations, vendor selection activities, proof-of-concepts, and technical due diligence.
  • Influence vendor product roadmaps to meet Sylvamo operational requirements.
  • Establish platform governance processes covering system enhancements, release management, testing, and lifecycle management.
  • Establish device management governance covering enrollment, compliance, application deployment, access control, lost or damaged devices, and support escalation paths.
  • Define governance for annual refresh planning, including device aging, warranty status, supportability, security compliance, funding needs, and regional budget alignment.
  • Ensure vendor solutions comply with enterprise security, architecture, and operational standards.
  • Coordinate with platform, hardware, telecom, infrastructure, and managed service providers to maintain an integrated and supportable mobile ecosystem.

Deployment & Capability Expansion
  • Provide technical leadership during implementation and deployment activities, in partnership with program and project management resources.
  • Plan device readiness for each deployment, including inventory, ordering, staging, enrollment, user assignment, site connectivity, and support coverage.
  • Coordinate with mill IT and site leadership to include device refresh needs in deployment planning, annual budgeting cycles, and long-range technology roadmaps.
  • Support mill teams in solution design, configuration decisions, and complex troubleshooting efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Mobile Worker capabilities through new use cases, technologies, and integrations. • Support mill teams in validating platform usability, device performance, connectivity, and support needs before and after go-live. • Develop reusable technical frameworks, templates, and standards that accelerate deployment and reduce implementation risk. • Drive continuous improvement of system functionality and user experience. • Capture feedback on platform workflows and device usability to improve frontline adoption, reliability, and standard work execution.

Operational Performance & Value Realization
  • Define technical performance metrics including system reliability, platform utilization, integration health, mobile adoption, and user experience.
