Job Level: Mid Level

Home District/Group: DHO Information Technology Group

Department: Technology Group

Market: Corporate Home Office

Employment Type: Full Time

Position Overview

Kiewit Technology Group's Transformation Acceleration Group (TAG) is hiring a Technical Lead to help design and deliver AI-powered enterprise applications across Kiewit's district portfolio. This role is ideal for a developer who has outgrown pure implementation and is ready to think at the systems level - shaping how applications are structured, how they integrate, and how AI can be leveraged to accelerate delivery. You'll work alongside senior architects while building your own architectural instincts through hands-on design and mentorship.

Location

This position is a full time in office role. We are willing to consider candidates to report in office to one of the three following locations: LaVista, NE; Houston, TX (Energy Corridor); Lenexa, KS

Responsibilities

  • Help design, build, and optimize AI-systems and solutions that advance our digital capabilities and create real value for districts.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify district opportunities and AI use cases.
  • Translate abstract business problems into concrete, innovative AI solutions.
  • Drive code quality, robust architecture, and documentation within technical teams.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, peer reviews, and upskilling within the AI team.
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Stay current on Azure services, AI tooling, and industry patterns - and share learnings with the team
  • Help evaluate third-party tools and services for fit within Kiewit's enterprise constraints

Growth & Mentorship
  • Pair regularly with senior architects on design sessions, trade-off analysis, and stakeholder communication
  • Participate in TAG's architecture review board and contribute to enterprise patterns library
  • Access to learning resources, conference attendance, and certification support
  • Clear progression path to Senior Solutions Architect based on demonstrated architectural leadership
  • Opportunity to define new patterns at the intersection of AI, governance, and enterprise software

What Makes this Role Unique
  • You'll architect AI-powered solutions, not just use AI as a feature - it's woven into how we design and build
  • TAG is building the foundational platforms for a $16B+ enterprise - your designs will scale across 40+ districts
  • You'll work across problem domains: internal platforms, district tools, AI governance, and SAP integration
  • Strong mentorship culture: direct access to senior architects with deep Azure, AI, and enterprise experience
  • We practice what we preach - our own development process uses AI agents, automated specs, and structured verification

Qualifications
• 3-5 years of hands-on experience in AI engineering and 10+ years of overall work experience.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices including source control, CI/CD, and automated testing
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, and cloud-native architecture
• Experience with Azure or AWS cloud services (compute, identity, networking, storage)
• Proficiency in at least two of: React/TypeScript, Python, C#/.NET
• Demonstrated curiosity about AI/ML: prompt engineering, LLM integration, agent patterns, or model evaluation
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills, with a willingness to share ideas and collaborate.
• Growth mindset - eagerness to learn from senior architects and continuously expand your skills

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience designing multi-service architectures (microservices, event-driven, or modular monolith patterns)
• Familiarity with Azure Container Apps, Entra ID, Bicep, and API Management
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot, Cursor)
• Exposure to agentic AI patterns: tool use, multi-agent orchestration, function calling
• Azure certifications (AZ-204, AZ-305) or equivalent cloud architecture training
• Experience in construction technology, industrial systems, or regulated #LI-AK1

Other Requirements:
  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
