Job Summary:

This position is responsible for solving CALS server tickets and moving CSS projects forward by serving as the primary operational technician for CSS. Rather than supporting a single department, this role manages the daily health and stability of diverse computational equipment and research servers distributed across the entire CALS ecosystem. This position will transition legacy standalone systems and infrastructure into a secure, centralized support model that aligns with campus standards and college plans. The role acts as the operational engine for the unit, executing "bare-metal" server builds, procurements, managing cross-system identity integrations, and overseeing they physical maintenance of server rooms through the college. In a sentence, this position ensures CALS infrastructure (specialized servers, research drives, administrative systems or UPS systems) remain performant and reliable.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Plans and directs staff implementation of small to medium technical projects as needed
  • Participates in the evaluation of new vendor software releases and impact. Documents and communicates system enhancements or changes
  • Serves as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, identifies needs, provides solution options, and communicates issue updates and resolutions
  • Runs, maintains, and operates technical systems and infrastructure
  • Integrates, identifies, troubleshoots, monitors, and resolves moderately complex, routine, and varied supported services, systems, network, and application problems according to established processes and procedures
  • Configures, maintains, upgrades, develops, and tests IT systems and services in alignment with industry best practices
  • Assists with the planning and coordination of system resources, upgrades, security, implementations, and integrations

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $86,000 - $95,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. Required Qualifications:
  • Professional experience in the support of Linux/Windows/Mac administration
  • Experience maintaining the security posture and integrity of server environments through automated patching, vulnerability management and firewall configuration
  • Demonstrated strength in verbal and written communication skills to a variety of audiences (e.g., professional emails, documentation and reports to internal and external audiences; responding to inquiries from colleagues, clients and vendors; adjusting communication style as needed; attention to detail)

  • Demonstrated commitment to proactive customer service, identifying needs, providing viable solutions and maintain consistent communication with clients

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional experience using system administration automation systems (Ansible/Puppet)
  • Experience with Git version control
  • Experience researching, planning, testing and implementing server upgrades and installations
  • Professional experience managing hypervisor installations
  • Experience using vendor APIs to create integrations between systems
