  • Guide and mentor engineering teams while providing expert technical support internally and globally.
  • Drive the Prevent Recurrence Process to resolve systemic steering electronics issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional experts to develop robust system and mechatronics requirements.
  • Support technical troubleshooting, HIL test case development, and critical quality issue resolutions.

The Technical Expert - Steering Electronic Hardware is responsible for the technical design of the Chassis Electronic hardware, which includes steering and brakes electronics. In this role, you will lead Core deliverables for the electronic hardware, including Requirements, Design Rules, and Test Methods/Validation in collaboration with other Technical Leaders and Experts. Additionally, the Technical Expert will review supplier-developed steering and brake electronics designs, requirement compliance, and validation as part of the Technical Design Review process. Lastly, the Technical Expert will support Quality issue resolution and technical training/mentoring of the Steering and Brakes Electronics Engineers.

Responsibilities

In this position...
  • Oversee Steering and Brakes Electrical Design, Analysis, and Validation, supporting Steering and Brake Electronics Engineers.
  • Provide expert analysis for electrical system Technical Design Reviews(TDRs) including: Worst Case Circuit Analysis(WCCA), Electronics Hardware & Sensor Design, Electromagnetic Compatibility EMC Testing, Environmental Testing (CEPT-412), Electrical System Vehicle integration, and Failure Mode Avoidance(DFMEAs/ISO-26262).
  • Lead Technical Design Reviews for safety-critical electronic hardware. Support sign-off responsibility and recommendations to the Chief Engineers.

What you'll do...
  • Be a technical resource internally & externally on component & vehicle systems. Provide technical support to global teams.
  • Define and Manage Core deliverables for steering and brakes electronic hardware, including Requirements, Test Methods/Validation Plans. Design Rules, SCCAF, DFMEA, and Manufacturing requirements. Collaborate with other Technical Leaders/Experts on Core deliverables.
  • Lead the Prevent Recurrence Process for Steering Electronics Issues, ensuring updated Requirements/Design Rules/Test Methods are issued to address systemic gaps.
  • Actively contribute to new Steering Technology electronics development, including HD-EPAS and Steer-by-Wire development.
  • Lead definition of best practices and engineering processes for up-front design analyses and failure analyses, for both component and subsystem/systems.
  • Guide & oversee training, mentoring & provide consulting to department engineers, supervisors & other interfacing function.
  • Lead Technical support for critical issue resolution for Steering Electronics, including Quality/Field issues launch and Recalls.
  • Analyze designs during the development process & address any potential failures & error states; pull in appropriate Technical Specialists as needed.
  • Collaborate with Steering and Brakes Mechatronics Tech Experts and SMEs to develop robust System and Mechatronics requirements and design.
  • Support HIL Test Case Development
  • Support Vehicle Issue troubleshooting and resolution.


Qualifications

You'll have...
  • BS Engineering- Electrical Engineering or closely related.
  • 5+ years of Safety-Critical Automotive electronics design experience, preferably Steering or Brakes.
  • Thorough understanding of steering and braking safety-critical electronic hardware technology and design.
  • Experienced in conducting and leading Worst Case Circuit analysis for safety-critical electronic systems.
  • Solid foundation in Ford electronics requirements (ELCOMP, E-412, EMC, etc.)
  • Extensive experience diagnosing and solving complex EE system problems.

Even better, you may have...
  • Strong oral/written communication skills to lead group projects, issue resolution, and management reviews.
  • Experience applying Systems Engineering, Failure Mode Avoidance, and ISO-26262 to develop safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with Supplier Management.
  • Demonstrated Proficiency in engineering disciplines: DFMEA, DVP&R, 8D, Process Control, PFMEA, and System Engineering Fundamentals.
  • Familiar with Ford tools, including FEDE, Teamcenter, WERS.
  • Problem solving skills including 8D, 6 Sigma, 5-Why training.
