DescriptionThe Technical Director (TD) oversees the day-to-day technical operations of the Schimmel Theater including lighting, sound, rigging, and construction. This includes oversight and maintenance of all associated equipment, evaluating the need for and purchasing of supplies, supervising technical staff including union crew working in the theater, and directing the set-up, running and takedown of all events. This position has a heavy emphasis on safety in the theater.
Position Duties- Maintains all equipment in the Schimmel Theatre.
- Hires and supervises all part-time technical personnel including IATSE crew hired by Pace University.
- Maintains and approves time sheets for technical personnel.
- Helps facilitate academic training days and class visits for Sands College students.
- Oversees the set-up and takedown of all events.
- Tracks all inventory and prepares purchase orders as needed.
- Prepares reports of safety concerns and oversees all safety issues in consultation with the University's Safety & Emergency Management department.
- Manages and maintains all Fire Safety certifications and OSHA requirements in the theater.
- Serves as House Manager when needed to ensure adequate coverage of the Theatre during all events.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Supervision ExercisedHires, trains, supervises and evaluates part-time technical personnel. Oversees scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
Position Qualifications- Master's in Fine Arts is preferred. Bachelors in entertainment technology or similar is a plus. 10+ years of professional experience considered.
- At least five years of hands-on experience.
- Experience teaching college courses and/or working with students a plus.
- Expert knowledge in all technical fields, specifically audio, lighting, carpentry, rigging and projection.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- Experience supervising Local One union employees or employees represented by a similar labor union.
- OSHA 30 Certification preferred. OSHA 10 Certification a plus.
- Able to work at heights on Catwalks, ladders, lifts, and gridirons.
- Able to lift up to 50lbs.
Work HoursGenerally, 35-40 hours per week including many evening and weekend hours; schedule varies considerably each week based on productions.
