Full Job Description

We are seeking an analytical, solutions-oriented Business Analyst to join our Alternative Investments Operations team at Neuberger. In this critical role, you will partner with senior operations leaders, product managers, technology teams (including BPM/workflow delivery), and external service providers to drive operational efficiency, streamline business processes, and support the growth of our private equity, private debt, and alternatives platform.

Your work will directly improve end-to-end investment operations through process redesign, automation, and measurable outcomes for internal stakeholders and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with operations, product, technology, and business teams to assess current-state processes, pain points, controls, and success metrics across the alternative investment lifecycle.

  • Map, document, and optimize front-, middle-, and back-office workflows (e.g., swim lanes/BPMN-style where appropriate) to improve clarity, scalability, and auditability.

  • Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, exception management, and straight-through processing; define future-state workflows and operating models.

  • Elicit, refine, and translate requirements into clear delivery artifacts: business/functional specs, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process documentation.

  • Partner with workflow/platform teams (e.g., Appian) to define workflow behavior, business rules, routing, SLAs, exception handling, and operational controls/entitlements.

  • Define data and integration requirements with internal platforms and third parties (e.g., fund administrators, custodians, vendors), including APIs/events and file-based workflows when needed.

  • Drive project execution activities end-to-end: workshops, backlog readiness/support, UAT planning and execution (scenarios, test cases, defect triage), training, cutover, and hypercare.

  • Prepare executive-ready materials (process maps, business cases, status updates, demos) to communicate recommendations, trade-offs, and decisions to senior leadership.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs (e.g., cycle time, exception rate, rework, SLA adherence, automation rates) and report outcomes post-implementation.

  • Act as a day-to-day liaison across operations, technology, and external partners to ensure seamless execution and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Operations Management, MIS/Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). Advanced degree and/or certifications (Lean Six Sigma, PMP, CBAP) are a plus.

  • 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, or similar role in financial services; alternatives exposure (private equity, private debt, real assets, hedge funds) strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated track record delivering process improvement and/or workflow automation in a complex, controlled environment (including end-to-end delivery from requirements through release).

  • Strong understanding of investment operations concepts (e.g., cash management, lifecycle events, reconciliations, controls, reporting); experience working with administrators/custodians is a plus.

  • Experience with process mapping and analysis tools (Visio, Miro, Lucidchart) and structured BA techniques (workshops, interviews, documentation standards).

  • Comfort partnering with technical teams on data and integration requirements; ability to reason through edge cases and operational exceptions.

  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of SQL and/or BI tools is a plus.

  • Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive alignment and present to senior leadership.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities with a bias toward action; confident challenging the status quo constructively.

Key Competencies

  • Business Acumen & Analytical Skills: Rapidly learns complex processes, identifies root causes, and translates insights into practical solutions.

  • Process Orientation: Skilled in mapping, redesigning, and operationalizing workflows with clear controls and handoffs.

  • Communication & Presentation: Communicates complex ideas clearly in writing and verbally; produces crisp, executive-ready content.

  • Collaboration & Influence: Aligns stakeholders across functions and vendors; drives decisions and follow-through.

  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: Proactively seeks efficiencies, automation opportunities, and scalable patterns.

  • Attention to Detail & Organizational Skills: High standards for accuracy, traceability, and delivery discipline (requirements through UAT and release).
