Job Description

Summary
  • Plan, organize and direct:
    • Process Engineering Group
    • Conversion / Quality Assurance Engineering Group
    • Quality Control Engineering Group
    • Quality Lab Group
  • Provide leadership in maintaining and improving the SMC technology base, continuously improving product quality, driving process control, and technical customer support
  • Provide technical leadership and support as required for all internal SMC departments and external customer base
  • Facilitate and organize the effectiveness of the Quality management systems, to include QA, Contract Review, Certifications, Specifications, NDT administration, records, Internal and External Audits, and Corrective Actions for both the New Hartford and Dunkirk facilities.

Essential Functions
  • Manage the facility's technical resources to best serve SMC's strategic needs
  • Direct any required claims and customer complaint investigations
  • Technical leadership to support and improve the New Hartford primary (VIM), secondary melting (VAR and ESR).
  • Technical leadership to support and improve the Dunkirk conversion operations
  • Provide technical oversight of the raw material purchasing activities
  • Serve as Management Representative and leadership for establishing a strong internal and external quality image, as well as a reputation for quality products which can rely and depend on to meet or exceed their expectations.
  • Define and establish appropriate monitoring and control systems (i.e. SPC) for key process parameters
  • Define, develop and execute a Quality Assurance program, ensuring best practices are in place and being followed.
  • Direct and lead the necessary technical evaluations and projects to improve process control, improve product quality, improve yields, reduce costs, and reduce scrap
  • Monitor and report key metrics for weekly, monthly, and quarterly business reviews
  • Budgetary responsibility for the Process, and Quality Assurance Engineering and Lab functions
  • Human capital development for the Process, and Quality Assurance Engineering functions
  • Recommend and provide justification for capital expenditures to improve the business
  • Provide and ensure technical and support to Sales for contract and specification review
  • Represent SMC in industry supported organizations or seminars that are valuable in advancing state of the art products and processes
  • Customer visits as required

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required. A BS in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science is preferred. Advanced degree (MS or PhD) is a plus.

At least 10 years of experience in technical management of product processes and applications in nickel or other metals industry. A minimum five years of experience in aero industry is also required including supervisory or managerial responsibilities. The individual must have a strong Technical and / or Quality engineering background.

Special Skills

High temperature nickel base superalloy melting or conversion experience is a plus. Knowledge of AS9100. In addition, the individual must possess excellent written and oral communications skills and be computer literate in order to effectively manipulate databases, analyze data, and document results.

Relocation is authorized for this position.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $143,000 to $214,000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 3X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
