The Team Lead, Pre-Award provides day-to-day leadership and oversight for pre-award services within assigned portfolios, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant proposal development and submission in accordance with sponsor and institutional policies. This position serves as a first-line resource for research administrators, providing functional guidance on workflow, compliance requirements, and complex proposal scenarios, while helping to resolve issues before escalation. The Team Lead supports process improvement, institutional guidance, policy implementation, and training initiatives, while maintaining a personal portfolio and directly preparing and reviewing proposals and budgets. They promote a culture of accuracy, compliance, and high-quality service across pre-award administration and may exercise delegated institutional signing authority for select sponsors.

Summary

This position serves as a first-line resource for research administrators, providing functional guidance on workflow, compliance requirements, and complex proposal scenarios, while helping to resolve issues before escalation. The Team Lead supports process improvement, institutional guidance, policy implementation, and training initiatives, while maintaining a personal portfolio and directly preparing and reviewing proposals and budgets. They promote a culture of accuracy, compliance, and high-quality service across pre-award administration and may exercise delegated institutional signing authority for select sponsors.

Job Duties
  • Manage the full pre-award process for assigned portfolios, including proposal development, budget preparation, compliance review, proposal routing, submission coordination, and authorized sign-off on behalf of investigators, as delegated.
  • Serve as the first-line resource for the assigned Pre-Award team by providing functional guidance and mentorship on workload management, sponsor requirements, compliant practices, and the resolution of routine and complex issues.
  • Interpret, apply, and communicate federal, state, foundation, and institutional regulations and policies related to pre-award administration, ensuring compliance and maintaining current knowledge of updates.
  • Support continuous improvement by maintaining documentation, developing tools and training materials, and contributing to process enhancements, systems improvements, and the implementation of institutional guidance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business Administration, Management or like field)
  • 5 years Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible pre-award research administration experience supporting federal and non-federal sponsored programs, including experience interpreting sponsor regulations, developing complex proposals and budgets, and providing functional guidance or mentorship to research administration staff.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Word and Excel required, and Cayuse preferred

Additional Qualifications

    Physical Demands
    Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
