Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist Team Lead is responsible for:

Performing complex laboratory tests on patient specimens to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.
Demonstrates precision, analytical thinking, and a strong understanding of laboratory science and technology.
Performs diagnostic testing on blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids.

Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

Analyzes test results and report findings to physicians and other healthcare providers.

Ensures quality control and compliance with safety protocols.

Maintains accurate patient records and laboratory documentation.

Collaborates with healthcare professionals to interpret results and support patient care.
Works closely with the supervisor in the oversight of the daily operations of the laboratory work unit.
Monitors daily workflows to include staff breaks, adjusting schedules/bench assignments.
Completes or assists with staff schedule and bench assignments and reviews timecards in the absence of the supervisor, as assigned.
Performs quality control review to identify any shifts/trends.
Works with supply chain management to review and manage supply and lot number inventory.
Serves as lab area safety officer, as assigned.
Serves as subject matter expert on laboratory procedures and contact person for troubleshooting of assays and instrumentation.
Performs training and competency assessments in collaboration with the Education Specialists.

Collaborates with the supervisor, technical specialist and quality specialist to improve quality and workflows.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Certification from recognized bodies such as MLS/H/C/BB ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or AMT (American Medical Technologists)
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, communication and computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety standards and procedures
