As an engineering consulting company, our GIS team plays an important role in supporting multidisciplinary project delivery by providing geospatial services, digital solutions, and technical expertise to business units and project teams across Canada.
We are seeking a Team Lead to join our growing GIS team within the Applied Technology TPO at AtkinsRéalis. The successful candidate will supervise GIS team members supporting English-speaking provinces across Canada, coordinate and prioritize daily GIS tasks, understand business needs from internal clients, and ensure GIS services are delivered effectively in a consulting and multidisciplinary engineering environment. This role requires a strong people leader who can guide technical staff, translate project and business requirements into practical GIS work plans, and help maintain consistent service quality across the organization.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of a GIS team delivering digital and geospatial services to AtkinsRéalis business units, including Environment, Civil, Mining, Hydropower & Geotechnical, and other technical practices as needed. They will provide operational leadership by supervising team members, assigning and delegating GIS tasks, balancing workloads, monitoring progress, and ensuring that GIS support is aligned with project priorities, client commitments, and business needs. They will also participate in the development of the GIS team's vision, service model, technical direction, and growth strategy within the Applied Technology TPO, while understanding how GIS integrates with other Applied Technology disciplines such as BIM, reality capture, digital twins, data analytics, and related digital delivery services. Working closely with internal stakeholders, they will help identify evolving project needs, clarify expectations, recommend appropriate GIS and digital service approaches, and support the GIS Manager in strengthening collaboration across Applied Technology, Technical Practices, Business Units, Proposal and Marketing, and Project Delivery teams.
This role may be based in any English-speaking province in Canada, including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or Ontario.
Your role - Supervise GIS team members across English-speaking provinces of Canada, providing day-to-day guidance, support, and performance input to the GIS Manager.
- Assign, prioritize, and coordinate GIS tasks received through internal GIS request channels, ensuring timely and effective support to project teams and business units.
- Understand business and project delivery needs from internal clients and translate them into clear GIS work plans, priorities, deliverables, and resource requirements.
- Coordinate resource planning, scheduling, workload balancing, and utilization for GIS team members.
- Support GIS and digital service delivery for multidisciplinary engineering consulting projects across AtkinsRéalis business units, including Environment, Civil, Mining, Hydropower & Geotechnical, and other technical practices.
- Collaborate with other Applied Technology disciplines, including BIM, reality capture, digital twins, data analytics, and related digital delivery services, to identify integrated solutions for multidisciplinary projects.
- Participate in developing the GIS team's vision, service offering, strategic roadmap, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Applied Technology TPO.
- Work with the GIS Manager and Director to identify opportunities to expand GIS and digital services in response to evolving business, project, and client needs across AtkinsRéalis.
- Monitor task progress, resolve delivery issues, and escalate risks, constraints, or resourcing gaps to the GIS Manager as required.
- Mentor and support geospatial technical staff at different levels of career development while helping ensure quality, consistency, and productivity targets are met.
- Contribute to governance, standards, and consistent ways of working for the internal GIS community of practice in collaboration with the Quebec Team Lead, GIS Manager, and Director.
- Report and forecast team productivity, workload, and resource needs to the GIS Manager and Director.
- Represent the GIS team in technology-related discussions, including licensing, software upgrades, network considerations, and Esri product requirements.
About you- Education Requirements: Diploma or bachelor's degree.
- Field Of Study: Geography, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Work Experience: Minimum 10 years , preferably with 2+ years supervisory or management experience.
- More than 10 years of progressive GIS experience, including strong practical experience with Esri technologies such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Portal, and related extensions.
- Demonstrated experience supervising, coordinating, and mentoring technical team members, ideally across multiple locations and/or time zones.
- Experience contributing to GIS service development, technical vision, governance, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong ability to assign priorities, coordinate tasks, balance workloads, monitor progress, and support timely delivery of GIS and digital services.
- Ability to explain the value of GIS and digital services to non-GIS users and identify opportunities to improve engineering consulting delivery through geospatial solutions.
- Ability to understand business and project delivery needs from internal clients and translate them into practical GIS solutions, work plans, deliverables, and resource requirements.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and support technical staff at different levels of career development while promoting quality, consistency, and collaboration.
- Awareness of complementary Applied Technology disciplines such as BIM, reality capture, digital twins, data analytics, and digital delivery workflows, with the ability to identify where GIS can integrate with these services.
- Strong communicator able to act as a GIS liaison between Applied Technology, project teams, business units, engineering disciplines, and non-GIS stakeholders.
- English proficiency in reading and writing, with bilingualism in French considered an asset.
